Hi,
Looking for a Machine Shop in eastern MI, who has experience with Olds engines and might be able to assit me with building a 350 stroker using a 330 crank and Chevy rods and pistons and #2 heads.
Regards,

You should talk to Cutlassefi before you go cutting up a 330 crank. He already has in production a stroker crank for the SBO that would be better and possibly cheaper in the long run to do what you want.

Hi,
Yes, I have spoken with Mark a little bit and in his post regarding his stroker kit its about a grand difference, as I am on a limited budget a 330 crank is most likely the direction I will go.
I want to find a local shop so I can see what I can get away with doing myself vs paying a shop. And as Mark is in FL that is not a very good option logistical, otherwise I would be giving him a call. Still may for some technical support.
I already have a 330 crank and heads and 70 350 block so hence me trying to use what I already have.

I checked with a local shop here in Albuquerque and they won't touch one. Factory rebuilds only, no tricky stuff. It is a shame that more shops won't experiment with different combinations and trying to use modern parts in old engines to perk them up a bit. They didn't even want to build a proven combination like Mark uses. So it looks like I'll be spending my money with Mark.

For what it’s worth....I did my 403 stroker local. 20 months later I got the engine together. Mark stepped in and got me another 330 stroked crank after the one that I started with was crap. 2 align bores and two setups later I picked up the short block 3 weeks ago. Not again.

Who did your crank? I am hoping my crank from Smitty is decent, supposedly Ohio crank is who he used to offset grind the 330 crank.. I am finally planning on sending my 403 block to the machine shop in the spring.

The first crank had too much thrust for the block and was not at the stroke i needed. It was used. Crank two Mark had machined somewhere in Florida to specs we agreed on.
Partly, the local shops fault as they did not measure my deck right and made some decisions based on bad information. The deck height they gave me was about .020 less than it should and did not check the crank until long into assembly.
It was a used crank and the throw was shorter than I was told so all in all my custom pistons were .040 in the hole from these comedy of errors. Crank was more like 3.490 and not 3.510 that pistons were made for this motor. It is not a bad crank in the true sense as is std on rods and .010 on the rods. I can get it reground, but was really frustrated and did not trust anyone local here. So, had one made to my specs from Mark and made .020 up in the new offset crank and cut .020 more off the deck.
Lets just say this motor was machined twice. I cant begin to tell you how much of my own time went into it. My advice is go to a shop that has built an Olds before outside of stock and done what you want or you will be the teacher and they will be learning
