Engine Oil Fill Tube

Engine Oil Fill Tube
Hey guys, since I got my 71 Olds 350, there has been no oil fill tube. a previous owner closed it up. My question is why would someone close it up? I see aftermarket fill up tubes online(like this: https://www.yearone.com/Product/1964...71#prettyPhoto) and I don't see threads, do you simply just stick the oil fill tube into the hole? and if you do just stick it in, how does it say secure? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

It's just a tube isn't it? On the front of the block. If you don't have one there must be a hole for it or did he plug it with something? My tube on my 71 comes out easy but I tried to get the tube out on a junk 72 block I had and it wouldn't come out. I'm sure you can get one still, they were used on the Olds up into the late 80's.

They are just a press fit. To remove I usually wrap the tube with a strap and pull the strap up with a hoist. With upward pressure on the tube I Then I tap around the tube w 2x4 pieces and if your careful it removes w no damage. To install I place the tube in its hole and rest a 2x4 piece on top of the tube, I then hit the 2x w a rubber mallet if your careful you will not damage the tube when installing.

Chris,
There are usually a couple of NOS GM ones on e-bay. I dont know how good the aftermarket ones are but I just finished the 307 in my Wife's car and I bought a NOS GM one for less than what the aftermarket ones are. I had to beat hers up pretty good to get it out to clean the block and did not feel good re-using it.
How have you been putting oil in yours ? Through the pcv valve hole ???

Funny you bring this up now Chris. I just opened the box from Summitt for this filler tube. It is made by March performance. Summit p/n MCH-16012.
Looks like a nice piece. Billet Aluminium with O Ring seals on the base and filler cap. Yes the Original is a press fit. Mine original leaked until I sealed it with permatex. I will let you know how it fits after I get it installed.
