Polishing combustion chambers, adding CC, any areas to avoid?
I am wanting to remove at least 5cc, probably more. They are going on a 403, so I can expand the chamber diameter. I know in between the valves is one spot, any others? I was thinking these bits being US made. Which is better, single or double cut.

What heads? The single cut carbide is for alum. The double says it can do either, but I find that suspicious.
I got Summit's carbide kits (one for alum, one for iron - 900240 and 900230) and they're excellent. The iron ones will bounce and break teeth, so slow and careful. Put an unwanted pair of valves in the chamber to protect the seats.
About the only thing you can do is unshroud the valves and remove some of the quench pad. Not sure altering the quench pad is a great idea though.

Unless you're taking the chamber out to the diameter of the head gasket I would make sure there are no sharp edges along that outside chamber circumference to avoid hot spots and detonation. This includes the quench pad edge.
When Mondello did my old set of 'E' heads many years (decades) ago the chambers were like mirrors they were so shiny. Can't claim whether that is good or bad but throwing it out there for reference.

#6 heads, the 2"/1.625" valves are already in there. Thinking of throwing a junk spark plug in the chamber I polish. I just want the chambers enlarged and smoothed so this 403 doesn't have 10 to 1 compression, looking for 9.6 to 1.

Sounds good Mark, I will be contacting you for a cam, lifters and timing set for this 9.6 to 1 403. If the rering, gaskets and bearings goes well on this 403, it may be a stop gap till I build a 350 stroker.
