New Member who got a gift and wants to fix some things
Hello let me first say it is a real pleasure to have a site i can get some good advise from people who know Oldsmobile in and outs. So I got a 1988 Olds Cutlass Supreme by doing a Clutch Job and a Rear end job on a Body shop owners 1968 Pontiac Firebird. He had a 1988 Cutlass Supreme sitting in the side lot of his fenced in yard, it was clean and had a new paint job and the 442 logos and pin stripes already done also the interior was very clean. It was a Vin Y olds and it had a 200 R4 trans in it / It had dual exhaust already on it / and a pretty dirty looking 307 olds engine which i thought. I need some suggestions on purchasing parts and the correct parts because i found out my pulleys for my ps / fan & alt / and wp were all wrong as in the setup. So now i have gone from trying to find a one v groove deep power steering pulley to realizing that the all the pulleys on it were not correct. So i am now at the point where i called Edlebrock and asked what i needed to get because of being afraid of not knowing what kind of engine i have. They said i needed to get them the casting #’s on the block and any other i found. So i found the numbers 6509 GM 5.0 G and i will talk to them again on Monday 11/20/2017. I have already bought the Wrong Cam and Lifter kit from Edlebrock because my Technician said I have a odd Roller Cam setup. I bought the Dual Plan setup for the Intake I got from Edlebrock, and i am going with either the Edlebrock PN 1801 / 500 cfm thunder series with Elec choke or the Edlebrock Performer series 1402 / 500cfm electric choke carburetor. I think these might be ok but i would like to see what the previous Oldsmobile Guru’s might feel differently. I am getting this information from Edlebrock and there Tech Dept.I have just the Cam coming in and i am going to reuse the lifters because my tech said they looked good. I need any suggestions to what else i might consider doing at this process in the job, my Tech said i might want to consider Heads but the cost holy cow i am only spending around 750.00 for the parts i have already so what do you think, let me know Please NO 350 OR OTHER Eng Swaps I have decided to stick with the 307 i have.

What heads are they recommending you swap onto your 307 engine?
And what is an "odd roller cam setup" on an Olds 307? I thought there was only one and it is not odd for Oldsmobile as it is the only one that was available.
As for the carburetor, do you have the original carb or not? I would use a non computer QJet over an aftermarket carb.

there are so many ambiguous statements in the original post that we don't know where to begin.
First thing to do is STOP buying parts and start with what you know to be true. Its a 1988 cutlass supreme. VIN code Y.
the 1988 cutlass supreme (classic) was produced with a 5.0L 307c.i. Oldsmobile V8 with roller cam, engine casting numbers you supplied would indicate the same.
luckily, this engine shares many common parts with most oldsmobile V8 engines produced from 1964-88, so getting pulleys and parts is easy without going aftermarket.
It would help if you could post some pics of the engine and problem areas, so that we can see just what your working with and make recommendations.

This is probably the place to start, not so much Edelbrock. Do you have pictures of the engine bay? There's a CHANCE someone may have swapped a Chevy motor in there for ease of use...possibly...or you have the wrong pulleys. Where'd you get the pulleys?

Do NOT use your old lifters! Lifters "wear in" to Individual lobes on a can. Paring a lifter with a different lobe, will cause lobe and/or lifter failure.

Edelbrock doesn't offer an Olds roller cam, that I am aware of. With your 7.9 to 1 compression, I would buy the Vin 9 307 HO roller cam, it will work properly and that Edelbrock cam is lazy. A member on the G body site just rebuilt his 307 in his 86 442. He used the Edelbrock 500 cfm carb, 2711 Performer intake, a new Proform vacuum advance distributor, that must be changed as well or you will have no timing control. He then added Thornton 350 JR dual exhaust manifolds and 2.25" true dual exhaust. His car was custom tuned and it made a big difference and his car has 30 hp on yours to begin with. Your tubular manifolds and exhaust are your biggest restriction, start there.
