Pulling down the '69 350 short block I picked up a few weeks ago. Found double row roller timing chain, and multi position crank gear?? Thinking that's not stock? Did they also have an oil slinger between the gear and timing cover? Mine didn't. So far it looks like crank has been turned once (marked in paint of 1st crank weight, need to pull the lifters to see what cam is in it. Would it make sense to plasitgauge the existing bearings before I tear it down all the way? Block has got to go to machine shop for a dip, sonic and deck check and see how much of an overbore it'll need. If it's buildable we'll start in on it as funds allow.

so it's obviously been torn into at least once but no indication as to how many miles ago? Budget permitting, I'd spring for new bearings. What you don't replace while access permits will only cost you more in time and $$ later.


And it should have had a slinger - they're available from most Olds repro vendors for about $20
