Problem after problem.

I believe this part is necessary for the transmission to function properly but it won't fit with my new intake carb setup.

Yes, it is. Your switch pitch torque converter is commanded to the high stall speed position both at wide open throttle and at idle. The kickdown switch also activates the converter solenoid at W.O.T., but this switch on the dashpot is how it is activated at idle and low speeds. You need to rig some sort of microswitch to replace this part.

Ok this sounds over my head. Can I simply relocate or does the linkage push it down.

Yes you can simply relocate it and the linkage does need to push it down. You may need to modify the mounting bracket to operate the same way it did with the old carb.

The linkage needs to push it down enough to close the contacts in the switch at the same throttle opening angles as it did originally.

Ok I checked this out on the original intake and the only time it time does anything is when carb is shut. And even at that it hardly touches it at all.

The Chassis Service Manual details the proper adjustment procedure for that switch and dashpot. Don't assume it is adjusted correctly at the moment. The fact that the intake is painted a non-original blue tells you it has been apart at some time in the past.

I think it's time I order a manual does anyone sell one book. Instead of multiple manuals.

The factory manual was a five volume set. Get an original paper factory manual, NOT a reprint or electronic copy. There were no electronic originals, so any reprint or CD is a scan of an original, and detail always gets lost when that is done.
