engine dies

installed a quickfuel slayer 600, electric fuel pump, regulator, all new gas lines over the winter. took the car out the other day and engine died when pulling into a friends driveway, restarted with no problems, was starving for fuel(it appeared). had to run the car at 1300rpm to get it home, neutral at all stops.
put car in shop, shop personnel say I had an intake manifold gasket vacuum leak. new intake gaskets. same story. found out I had the fuel pump to far away from the tank and that it should have been PUSHING fuel rather than PULLING. relocated fuel pump to frame of car, about 3 feet from tank and lower, configuration is : fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, pressure regulator, carb. car starts and runs fine as long as I don't put it in gear, then it dies. Looking for ideas as to what to look for now. thanks in advance

Perhaps monitor the fuel pressure at the carb to see what's happening there.

Yes, it's all well and good to have a pressure regulator, but what IS your fuel pressure?

Are you sure it's not flooding?

While a problem like this is usually in "the last thing you touched" (the fuel system), you can't discount other possibilities, such as the coil, or the condenser.

If you can see fuel in the sight plugs on the fuel bowl there should be no problem of starvation when you put it in gear. you could check for fuel dripping out of the nozzles while idling. There are youtube videos for tuning the quickfuel slayer 600, good luck.
