What vacume advance springs should i use?
I just bought a new accel distributor for my stock 69 350. i was wondering what springs i should use for the advance. the chart that came with it is
color curve start engine rpm total
gold 400 1600
silver 600 2800
black 600 4000
The gold springs are in the distributor now. I would greatful for any help!!
Thanks

I'd lean toward two silver or one silver and one black, which would probably be pretty close to having it all in by 3600. The two gold combination brings it all in by 1600 RPM which is just a little quick for an Olds engine. Your ideal street engine setup is all mechanical advance in by a few hundred RPM above start of your cam's RPM range. Yah, I know that'll start an argument, but it has always worked well for me.
You can experiment with different combinations to get the curve you want. You can measure it with an advance timing light or ideally with a Sun or Marquette distributor machine if you can find one, and someone who knows how to use it.
Not sure about Accel, but I used to put Crane adjustable vacuum advance cans on my stuff and found that their published spring combinations for a desired advance curve were dead accurate.
