Question What is this?

I posted in my intro about the engine that came in this truck that I aquired... I cant really find anywhere that states what size small block this motor is... the casting numbers on the shelf above the water pump is 550355 5... on the side of the block, it has 355 above the center freeze plug... the oil filler tube has the numbers 6720659... the heads, I am pretty sure I got those down though... the heads are the #10 heads which are 260 heads and the intake manifold is also from a 260... but, the numbers on the block say it "should" be a bigger bore engine... can someone help me decipher the block casting numbers?
Thanks, Tony

According to the Mondello engine tech manual, that engine would be a 75/76 only, 260 cubic inch engine.
Also check for the serial number below the #1 spark plug (on the vertical block surface), just below the head.

I will pull the alternator bracket off of it tomorrow and check that then... I see an engine transplant in the near future...

I don't know why the 355 is there... They put 350 and 403 on the sides of the blocks of that vintage and that's what the cubes were. But I had a 260 once and yes there was a 355 cast into the side of the block! Yep, an engine swap sounds like the right idea

Dangit John... ya had to go and verify the worst! LOL!! Oh well, then this motor will be gone soon... I will be replacing it with a LT1... I have first dibs on it, and Im gonna take him up on his deal... I was really hoping this block was the 350, I would have kept it and built the crap out of it...

Oh well, anybody looking for a 260 to tinker with?
