Water pump lube?..OPinions appreciated
Just getting around to replacing my water pump. Understand there is an additive to lube the new pump. Any pros/cons to this/these? My first water pump relacement and look forward to your thoughts...Thanks

My thoughts....
My mom used to use this in our old Ford for many years. We got over 25 years and 100K miles from the original pump. Not sure if there was any relationship.
I am thinking that lube stuff was good for people who live int he south who either use just water or a low amount of coolant to water.
New quality antifreeze I believe has a lube in it (at least it feels that way).
So if you use 50/50%, I think the additional lube is not needed.

Yes, bearings are sealed and don’t contact the coolant. I believe the idea is that it keeps the seal from sticking on the shaft. In my opinion not needed with modern coolant but won’t hurt. there is stuff like “water wetter” that breaks water tension to aid cooling that would make more sense to use.

i'd say just run a a good 50/50 mix, either buy it premixed or buy distilled water to mix with the antifreeze. water wetter is intended for use with straight water, i don't know if it'd do any good in antifreeze or not...
napa as well as others sells a cooling sytem conditioner that you can add every so often. i've used it in my powerstroke and a 460 powered truck, can't say one way or another if it helps anything but it won't hurt anything either. preventing cavitation is hugely improtant in the diesel which is my reasoning for using it... threw some in the 460 for the hell of it...
