Re-thread oil drain plug?

So I rolled through Valvoline oil change today, they showed me the oil drain plug threads ~ told me they put one of those pan savers on.
Is it true / should I just get the existing plug re-threaded? Or should I be looking for a new plug? Should I be worried about the threads on the pan as well?
I guess it has done its job since 1991... (from my 91 Cutlass 3.1L)

Try a new plug, the pictured plug does not look OE. Threads in the pan??? would have to be visually inspected.

Good luck!!!

I was looking and for $5, a new plug does sound like a better idea. I've seen that the gasket can be bought separate, I guess I need that as well? I've seen some that look like mine 2 gaskets on either side of washer, some just a gasket.

I can't comment on your oil pan but I suggest to any one to avoid quick lube shops. I make a ton of money replacing oil pans that were damaged by them. Now you have a pan saver drain plug with who knows what thread size or pitch. A competent repair facility should have attempted to chase the existing oil pan threads and install a new drain plug. If I were a gambling man I'd bet the quick lube doesn't have a tap set or personnel that knows how to use it.

You can always try a new drain plug. I had to replace the oil pan on my 96 98, but the pan had actually been crushed. Here's the drain plug gasket I use on my 96 98.

Like Dynoking said in post 4.....The guys at quick lubes only care about how much stuff they can sell you in addition to the oil and filter--not your automobile.

It's just a rule of nature. Quick Lubes are like government. Anything they touch they make worse.

I agree, quick lube places aren't the best- but I thought an oil change was a relatively simple thing lol! Little did I know. The other reason I use them is usually a shop/garages hours are the same hours that I work (9-5 Mon-Fri) and lately its even harder to find a place. If I had more time off it wouldn't be as big a deal but thats not their prob I know heh.

These are some of the ways that a simple oil change can go wrong that I have personally seen over last 46 years;
Strip the oil pan threads, - headache.
Install wrong oil filter. Oil filter blows off under pressure - blown engine.
Leave the old oil filter gasket in place, - oil leak, headache or - blown engine.
Drain engine oil but don't refill, - blown engine.
Drain engine oil, don't reinstall oil drain plug - 4-5 qts. of engine oil on the garage floor - mess, headache.
Remove but don't install new oil filter - 4-5 qts. mess on garage floor, headache.
Don't drain oil, overfill engine, - headache.
Drain transmission instead of engine, overfill engine,- headache.
Drain FWD differential instead of engine, overfill engine,- blown differential.
Don't close/latch hood, hood flies open - windshield replacement and expensive body repair.
