Missing part in carb (choke)

Just took out my old carb to replace is. Discovered that the old one had a missing part (plug).

It seems to be plugged in my replacement carb. Could that have been causing the gas leak and strong smell of gas?

It seems to be som kind of ceramic plugg?

No. There is no fuel anywhere near the choke housing.

Do you know what the function is with that “ceramic” plug?

Could that have been causing choke malfunction, without that plug?

The missing plug would have prevented the choke from operating correctly.
