Head Gasket Sealant

The manual calls for 1050026 sealant on the head gasket. I don't have that. Is there anything I can get at an auto parts store that works like it, like high tack, shellac, some kind of RTV...?
Thanks

Many use the copper spray. With modern composite head gaskets and iron heads, no sealant is necessary.

What engine are you working on and what type of gasket/material is in the plan? Iron heads or aluminum?

Good luck!!!

It's a 75 350. The gaskets are just the normal blue fel-pro ones and the heads are the original iron.

No need for any sealants or goops of any kind for the head to block.

I use K&W Koppercoat with steel shim gaskets, including intakes (RTV at water ports on intake gaskets). I have heard both ways on Cometic head gaskets--K&W vs. nothing. All assumes good flat surfaces. It is relatively easy to get the intake and exhaust surfaces re-done because they are at 90 degrees from the main surface. It is also good to do the intake surfaces. I don't do them every time, but after 40-50 years, the iron has taken a set and after surfacing should hopefully stay stable.

BTW, I agree that no sealant is needed or desired on Fel Pro and Corteco composition head gaskets with iron heads.

I am going to repeat what the others have said. No sealer on the blue Fel Pro gaskets. The blue coating actually is a sealer that is meant to "heat flow" and help seal the gasket. If you put something else on it you might actually make it worse

So the sealant is for the original steel one...makes sense to me. Thanks.

Agree no sealant on those gaskets...they are thick gaskets, consider getting the heads milled to prevent making the compression ratio even lower.

Good luck!!!
