Got a bang out of this

This probably shows how boring my life is, I got this set of heads today to start my next project and noticed the oil return holes, all 4 where this way, suppose this engine smoked a little and how much extra oil you suppose was sitting in the heads all the time.
Thanks 2blu442 for the heads they are going to fix my problem.

Wow - even worse than mine were!
Clearing those holes on both sides brought my oil consumption to nil.

I had the same problem with my 307, once the passages were cleared, I stopped blowing oil out the tailpipe.

Thumbs up A good lesson should be learned

You have provided an excellent example of what happens when maintenance is deficient. Engine oil is crucial. It should be the correct type, changed at appropriate intervals, and maintained at the correct level. Other places on the engine where it was run is also likely congested. Thanks for the view.

A properly maintained and connected PCV system is important, too, as well as a good mechanic that replaces the valve cover gaskets. My oil return holes had big chunks of gasket material in them as well as dirt and carbon and crap.

I'm glad they'll work for you!

Yeah, dismantling motors like that use up quite a bit of hand cleaner

I still think back to the story a buddy told me years ago. He was working in a Service Station that also did oil changes. A car came in that when he removed the oil pan drain plug nothing came out. He had to take a screw driver and punch through the layer of gunk before something like cold molasses flowed out!

That happen to me when I first started working as a lube man back in 1971. People would come in for an oil change with there fairly new car, with about 50,000 miles and said it had lifter noise. They still had the original oil filter from the factory and I had to punch the drain hole to get what little was there. So many people do NOT take care of there car, and then bad mouth the brand for breaking down on them.
