Camshaft recommendation
So I know this question has been asked over and over again but here we go again I am getting very close to assembling my 71 350 bored 30 over with speed pro flat top pistons #7 head with larger valves I already have 2 new cams, comp XE268h and Lunati 10420702 voodoo cam, also looking at JM-22-25-10? My compression is probably 9 to 9.6 range I will be running Thornton Jr exhaust manifolds and 2 1/2 exhaust, eldebrock RPM intake with quadrajet carb, I’m figuring 2500 stall converter. 3.73 rear end ratio. I hear that the fast ramp cams that I have can be noisy and hard on valve train? Also I am using comp cams adjustable stamped steel roller rockers, valve springs are good for 550 lift. Also I hear talk about dual pattern cams being better for Olds engines? Any advice appreciated I would hate to get it all put together and wished I used a different cam!

What made you pick the cams you have now? Something must have had an influence on you.
Dual pattern cams are patterned after the engines’ needs, just like all cams should be.
The Erson TQ40 would be a great choice, sold and installed dozens of them. They’re modern designs that are still easy enough on the valvetrain to give a long life.
But whatever you do, buy a wideband and tune that Qjet correctly. Otherwise you will have wasted a lot of time and money.

I originally bought the XE268h for my 455, the guy here that I work with fixing cars aside my regular job at NAPA uses comp cams 99% of the time, and my two sbc run comp extreme 4X4 cams. When I decided to build the 350 for the cutlass I bought the lunati cam for the 455, much like the comp cams in the way it’s was advertised to run so I figured just use the comp cam in the 350, I want throttle response good vacuum for power brakes and midrange power,, not so much on top end because it’s a street car not a drag car, but also like a nice exhaust tone, both cams I have say slightly rough or choppy idle. What kind of sound could I expect from the tq40, or should I go a custom grind.

Well hopefully I don’t regret using the comp XE268h but after getting in touch with my friends buddy in California that builds Oldsmobile’s says he uses the same cam in many of his street builds. But I think I will probably buy different lifter than what came with the kit.

I ran the lunati 60804 with about 9.8x compression in my .030 350 which has long been sold and found a new home. The car ran 12.20's in the 1/4 mile drove 120 miles round trip to the track and back many many times . I ran 3.73's but bumped it to 3.90's for my useage. I had just enough vacuum for power brakes but I did not run power steering or a/c. Just the alternator from the crank pulley. I had 0 and I mean 0 valve train noise. Just for what its worth. It was a great cam and I had a very similar build. It was a great street engine in my set up don't know your intended use but just for what its worth.

The high Energy comp cam 268/268 or the extreme Energy with 268/280.
or is a 274/274 better ?

From my understanding on Olds engines they like more duration on the exhaust side, if you go with a comp cam I would go with the dual energy or extreme cam but I would not go the 274 for the street unless you want to run a 2500+ converter, you could also look at the erson tq40 like cutlassefi suggested or the Engle 20-22 would be another choice, what ever way you go I would get the comp cam adjustable rocker 1441-kit! And don’t forget to update the valve springs to match your cam!
