62 Olds Ninety Eight

Did Olds ever offer a 2 bbl. carb for the 1962 Olds 394 c.i. engine installed in the Ninety-Eight (98)? I know it was available on the Dynamic 88, but I cannot recall having ever seen a 98 or Starfire with a 2 bbl. carb?

Dave, to my knowledge all Super, Ninety Eight and Starfire had 4-barrel engines standard. That ain't saying a dealer with pull could not have ordered one with a 2-barrel for a good customer who wanted one.

That was my thinking too. I sure have never seen a 98 with a 2 bbl. Sort of seems like an oxymoron? At any rate., there is a guy selling '62 98 which he claims has a 2 bbl. carb.

Joe P., where are you on this one?

I'll be the first to admit that I know next to nothing about the first-gen Olds V8s, unfortunately.

It could have been somebody who thought the 2 barrel would give them better mileage and had the dealer install it. It happened from time to time.

Now wait one, you do own a '62 F-85 and a '64 Jetstar, per your signature. Admittedly they are not 394's, but they are in the years the 394 prevailed.

I am so not an authority, that I assume the 303 c.i. was the first gen V8?

I acknowledge that as a possibility. However, I am more inclined to believe the seller does not know whether the car has a 2 or 4 bbl. carb.

I can tell you about those cars, but still no experience with the 394.

Yes, 303, 324, 371, and 394.
