Question 525+HP SBO 350 Motor Mounts?

Hello everyone!

I'll son be installing a SBO built by Mark R (cutlassefi) that just dyno'd 530hp and 580tq. I'll be using factory rubber motor mounts, and will also be strapping the drivers side of the engine to the frame, as well.

I'm just curious if there is any other reinforcement I should do with this power on the stock 1972 Cutlass Convertible frame for the motor mounts? I heard large power can crack/stress the exact area of the frame where the motor mounts bolt down to, and I wasn't sure if there is anything I need to worry about.

I appreciate all insights to this inquiry!

You can fabricate or buy (someone was making them) a solid motor mount for the drivers side.

Solid drivers and rubber passenger? Would that negatively effect anything aka vibrations?

Have you thought about a poly one on the drivers side?

Wait, there's poly mount options? After searching this forum and online it seemed like there was only oem-style rubber and solid mount options only?

Beat me to it. Who makes a poly motor mount for Olds? Yes, a solid on the drivers side and rubber on the passenger. Like I said I think someone started making them, not hard to fab yourself.

My BBO had less vibration with the solid motor mounts on my drag car. I purchased them from Mondello when Joe was still alive. The Chrysler chassis manual recommends 1 of the 3 mounting points for engine/transmission combinations be rubber to avoid cracks.

^^^THIS! The passenger side mount is in compression normally, so rubber there is fine.

I run solid driver and rubber passenger, transmission on both my BBO Cutlass and my BBC Chevelle. Neither has any vibration issues.

Sounds like a drivers side solid mount, and passenger & tranny mount rubber. Got it!

Any recommendations on a company that makes a well build solid mount (drivers side) for a SBO?

Buy some stock mounts. On the driver side drill it and use a bolt to turn it into a semi solid mount by bolting the 2 halves and limiting them from splitting apart or ripping under torque. I use a threaded tube and heim joints to strap the engine to the frame. ( adjuster bar from lakewood traction action bars for coil cars )

Yep, drill a whole through a rubber one with a grade 8 nut, bolt, and washer. Yes on rubber for 2 our of 3, not on the trans mount at least.
