Refill Accel Super Coil???

I have a brand new (never used) Accel Super Coil that has leaked some of the oil. There are 4 screws on the top that hold it together. Can I remove the top and refill the oil inside? If so, what kind of oil should I use? I would return it to Summit Racing for a new one, but I bought it in 2015. I don't think they will provide any kind of warranty; even thought it hasn't been installed, it's still over 2 years old.

I'd cut your losses and just buy a new, more modern style coil. Those always had problems and draw a lot of power for what they produce.

Mark:
What would you recommend? I see some coils have a lower primary resistance. Most coils 0.7Ω, but Pertronix makes a "Flame Thrower" coil that has 0.32Ω primary resistance. Is that what you mean by "modern style coil"?

X2. Every one of those I ever had over the years eventually piddled out oil.

that oil contains some really bad stuff, cancer causing and all so I doubt you could buy it anywhere even if you so chose to do so

I got one that is 30 years old and is still going. I believe they use an O-ring to seal the 2 parts. As for oil normally you would use transformer oil which is a low carbon low ash oil similar to some diesel oils. You can also use a low viscosity oil straight 10 or 20, and even synthetic which is what they use now and no PCB's. I find these coils work ok with GM HEI.

I'll bet that's because that one was made here, not overseas.

CDrod you need to see what ohm coil is recommended for use with your distributor and/or if it would need a ballast resistor.

Mark, don't they use the same module as the Mallory Breakerless? That requires a 1500 ohm primary resistance coil or a ballast resistor.

x2

If you want to try to refill the coil 74sprint hit the nail on the head. Some of the FAA radars I maintain use a transformer oil to cool the High Voltage section of the exciter.

It might be more trouble than it's worth though. Let us know what you do.
