My 442 is numbers matching, I would never put an LS in it either. But my next car will be a 69 Cutlass Vert or a 78ish Trans AM and I will be putting an LS motor in it and aftermarket suspension.

I did this as well, but cleaned them very well first. Soaked in a water tide solution for a day or two and then in my wife's dishwasher for a cycle. Worked great!
