Wagon debut at track today
Today was the race I debuted the wagon at. Retained original 3.08 gears added mini spool with fingers crossed . 26x10 slicks , Craig's list used rebuilt Pontiac TH350 , my old 455 Pontiac budget race motor that was on the stand 4 years with dirt daubers attacking it. All iron intake to block , my good ole qjet. 4250# RW 1st run 12.70 @104.7 , 2nd run 12.66@105.5 both runs had 1.77 60' and popped front wheel in the air everytime. Both 1/8th were 8.02 and 8.00. Thinking fuel filter started to get dirty as it started to starve fuel a touch on second run and first round eliminations in starved worse and nosed over and ran 12.8. Overall pleased and I need to get converter tightened up as it slipped pretty far as expected leaving me with something to improve.

whats the build on the pontiac like ???? thats damn right impressive time considering the weight of the car and the 3.08's plus im a fan of the budget lol.My girlfriend wants to go racing so we are looking at building an old dodge dakota with my current running gear as i plan on redoing my body next year and plan on letting the car sit all year . We want to go small and light to go fast but im tempted to do a big gm b body with a 455 and hit the same goals lol. nothing like a big ol land yacht hauling ***.

Thanks, it has potential to.be in the 11's but my converter is holding me back besides general small stuff to improve it. It's a ported set of 68 heads 2.11/1.77 stick style 400 GTO head ported flow like 260-270 intake = 190-200 exhaust , about 10.8-11.0:1 on stock 455 030 short block other than TRW-Speed Pro forged , balanced otherwise. Factory iron 69 Qjet stock intake with porting , 800 Qjet from 77 TA , mild street able solid roller Ultradyne/Bullet grind 278/290 242/252 112 .566/.566 about .540 net lift. , cheap Summit headers , TCI 10" Street fighter I got cheap as sorta New, rated 3400 with big block but with my torque , weight bad gear it's slipping up way too high missing some of my torque curve. When I test drove it only dropped to 4800 on WOT 1-2 and 2-3 shifts at 5200. Power steering, power brakes
, a.c. compressor to the side , clutch fan, mechanical race pump regulated down to 3-4 psi, factory 3/8 line stock wagon vertical tank with cap loose for air flow, 26x10 slicks, 3.08 type O with mini spool , shift +/- 5500 runs about same at 5000 as 5800' gonna free up fuel filter first then later maybe get converter redone to not slip past 4000 under 600 ft lbs and 4200 pounds

why would he need a taller tire with that gear ???? if anything his shorter tire will gain a better 60ft and that gear can carry the MPH well out the back door. So far for me i founf my e/t gains to be in the 60 ft. times I think a taller tire would hurt his 60 ft. specially with a 3.08

Thanks again for the compliments just give it time. Was trying to figure out my bad converter slip percentage and it is figuring out to be around 18.5% which is robbing me of showing its potential at the moment. Think Jim Hand wagon and you will get the idea.

I think the heavy receiver hitch does help on these small slicks besides the whole wagon hooking thing. I need to post a pic of how heavy built it is. I plan to keep it so when the 350 goes back in I can pull the Rallye on the trailer. Its was funny with a weak burnout and a better burnout it still did same 1.77 60' , on my last run (3rd) I had reduced timing from 36 to 32 but since it had fuel starvation in 2nd gear (likely filter got dirty) the run was a bust. It did a 1.78 on that run (bad burnout). It was really humid and hot muggy the whole time I was sweating like crazy. I liked stil getting the wheels up even with the big AC compressor intact and the big 1-1/4 front sway bar upgrade. The old Gabriel Hi Jackers in the back pumped up hard made it feel pretty stable

The "Build" is likely close to 500 hp 600 ft/lbs at flywheel 462 ci (4.21 stroke) and about 11:1 , smallish solid "street" roller Ultradyne grind 278/290 242/252 112 .566 .566 about .540 net lift after lash (1.5:1) , cheap small tube headers, heads peak in the 260-270 cfm intake, 190-200 cfm range 2.11 / 1.77 valves peak torque should be around 3800-4200 and basically the converter under load goes higher than that. IE: Test drove the other day and on a 5200 1-2 shift it only dropped to 4800 and the same on the 2-3. I was slipping about 700-800 rpm above what direct drive would be in the traps at the 1/4. Need to get that down to not more than 500 rpm and get single digit slippage not 18%. Performance both mph and et will improve when peak torque is actually utilized though the run instead of blowing past it and riding the down hill slope of it. 26" tires and 3.08 is only 100-150 rpm or so less at 110 mph than 3.42/28" or 3.73/30" tires. I would prefer 3.23 with 26" if starting from scratch but it is close enough. The only reason for more gear and a offsetting taller tire is traction but it hooks now. Also this reduces stress on my chicken **** 28 splines axles. Runs nearly the same shifting at 5000- 5500- 5800.

8.00's in the 1/8th is good for about 12.4-12.5's in the 1/4. Fix that fuel problem and you'll be golden. At 4250#'s you're getting about 465 hp. All this according to my Moroso Power-Speed Calculator

Thanks for the support, I am about to pull converter and get it tightened up and address the fuel filter stuff and maybe bump it up 1/2 # psi , still got get front brakes working right. Next 1/4 race is Nov 1st

My engine has been on stand 4 years , set the valves back in 2011 and was ran briefly and this wagon was off the road at least 15 years I think or more. Rotating assembly was previously in another block I built in 1989 and only moved into a fresh bored other block because the other block got a bad gouge in a cylinder in 2007 when I had a ring break after I freshened it up. It has never had a spun bearing. Knock on wood...LOL

2cents, after watching video and rereading, The rake is good on the wagon for air flow around the car down track, tightening the converter some, good move, air was horrible, november air will be good, i see 12.50s first run, should realy consider, a cool can, and dual snorkel inlet under bumper ram air, i see 12.30s before year is out with ram air and some DA rods. Brakes? drum or disc? dragging or loose, oh hell nevermind i remember 4 people couldnt push it,

KEWL Dragon Wagon! Not bad times at all. 1.7 sixty footer in a barn find wagon with left over parts...I like you style! Are you running a stock Qjet in air horn fuel filters? If so try pulling the rubber stopper out of the filter. Cured my nose over on my thirsty 11:1 G block.

Everyone , there was no intent to stir up a S storm here. This is early in on a fun project I started just everyone chill and let it play out. I hope to follow thru with action to make my previous points and improvements to come barring any unseen crap that happens to all of us.

Why thank you copper. I knew you wouldn't delete your post because like i said you did it on purpose. The mod i think can view anything i posted even after i deleted it. If the mod reads this i offered to take this to a pm and copper isn't good enough to discuss any issues with me in a pm. He is what he says he is and i am good with that.

I deleted all my comments as german69 asked me to and im sure he wants the attention on his badass wagon . That thing cooks down the track . Love the budget aspect. Nothing like getting some junk (respectively) kicking *** down the track.
