I do as often as possible. Although my race only car is faster my street car is no slouch. 1987 442. 470 cid SBO based on a diesel block with Edelbrock heads & a flat tappet cam (no roller). Trans is a T400 & Ford 9" sporting 3.89 gears. The car has 4 wheel disc brakes with hydroboost. Car's best run this summer with only a foot brake was 11.33 @ 116.5 mph with a 1.52 60' on a 255 60 15 MT Drag Radial. Better still this was at a corrected altitude of 5350'. The car weighs 3850 with driver. Applying the accepted NHRA correction factor for my track to the time slip has it corrected to 11.09 @ 118.8 mph at sea level. This is a true VIN 9 1987 442. Two tone paint was not re-sprayed after a theft recovery in the 90s.

dave, those are some great numbers. I am guessing it is n.a motor as you did not say anything about spray. that's also the biggest olds smallblock I have heard of. is this a pump gas motor? if so this is a great example of a street car imo! I bet you have a lot of track time and tuning to get those times. do you mind me asking how much you have in the motor {ballpark}?

details
The engine has 11.2:1 compression. Bored 1980 diesel block. Stroked 425 crank. Edelbrock heads with a Victor intake, an 850 AED carb on a 1" spacer & a 0.550ish" lift flat tappet cam. Headers are American Racer with a 3" exhaust. I run on 94 Octane pump gas with 34 deg of timing & no spray thru the mufflers leaving on the foot brake. Converter is a 10" 3500 stall. To duplicate the engine from carb to pan would run about $12K. Plenty of more $ in the headers, converter, trans, driveshaft, rear end, disc brakes & hydroboost.
It has only been to the track a few times as it was eating 2004R transmissions & I finally gave up & went back to the T400. There is a lot of dyno time on the engine & additional chassis dyno tuning time. There is no bar in the car but it will run 11.50 in drive all day long. I need to decide if I want to put a bar in the car or not. With a bigger tire, some more tuning & putting the car on a diet I think I can get it to run 11 flat at my home track.
There are lots of guys out there with better engines than this but I am happy with this combination.

The 72 is definitely a street car, with all the original steel panels, full exhaust, complete bucket/console interior, cage, and is PA inspected, which is pretty strict here.I drive it to work,cruise-ins,parades,etc.It has gone 10:90's @ 122,and weighs 3850lbs with me in it.Drag radials.I don't even own slicks.I race it exactly how it is driven. No switching of parts or different tunes. It has manual steering, manual brakes, and the AC/heat boxes are removed.

My 68 442 is stock, nothing stripped. I race it as is with full exhaust. Best E.T. is a 11.43 at 116.5 mph. at 4800 ft alt. The drivetrain consists of a 468 with stock crank / rods with Aries 11.1 pistons. Roller cam and BTR Edelbrock heads. 2 inch headers and 3" x-pipe exhaust. Turbo 400 and a 4200 stall with the Olds 12 bolt and 3.91 gears. Not sure what the car weighs but I assume around the 3800 lb mark. It is stock right down to the factory eight track and power antenna . windows etc.

those are some nice numbers guys. I know its not easy building hp on the olds stuff as the aftermarket does not cater to you guys. but its cool to see these realistic street cars ie no spray, real street gear ratios, ect, ect, brian you are really working those valvsprings with that cam!

not sure how streetable a 4:33 geared car is, but it's been on the street. I've driven it to work on occasion too. It's even been up and down Route 66 on a cruise during the H/O Nats when it was in Joliet, IL. What an absolute ball to drive too. It's a future Pure Stock car. 69 W-31, born with engine rebuilt including original intake, heads, exhaust manifolds, 29255 carb, the 400289 water pump and the W-31 balancer. 10.6:1 compression with those heavy TRW pistons. JO coded TH-350 which has been rebuilt too. COAN convertor. 2.5" Torque Tech exhaust system with Dynomax long body mufflers (20" length). No h-pipe or x-pipe. KYB shocks all around. polygraphite rear suspension bushings with boxed lower control arms and rear sway bar. front suspension is as built from Lansing in May 1969. Repro Goodyear Polyglas F70x14 on SSII rims. originally a 3.91 car, now a 68 31-spline 4.33. Has gone 13.8 @ 100 The car is currently in the abyss as I gather parts cars, parts, cash and engine pieces as I'm planning to build another engine too.
I have a buddy with a 70 442 convertible Pure Stock car. He doesn't own a trailer so it gets driven to tracks. non a/c, buckets, console, auto, p/s, p/db, 2.5" x-pipe Pypes exhaust system, SSII with repro Firestone Wide Oval G70x14. 3.42 gears in a Type O. Has gone I believe 13.65 @ 101

Ran 11:50s-11:60s last summer. New engine going together now which should put me in the high 10s.
69 442 3350pounds, pump gas, 3.42 gear.
I dont own a trailer and usually drive it 35 miles one to the track and back home. Probably be another year or two before I get a trailer to make the far away races.
Planning on making the Hot Rod pump Gas Drags in 2014 if I get a rollcage installed.

Best so far 11.34 @ 120.5 mph in my 72 W30 that weighs 3950 with me in it. It is a 455 Edel heads and a torker. Has 3.73's and a Ultimate Converter 3200 rpm. Its a street car but I think I like racing even more now. Have to work on my 60's at 1.67 best.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE NOW GOING OUT TO RUN I HOPE YOU HAVE A LOT MORE IN STORE TO RUN WITH.

hey all i am saying is that for our own purposes that our times or real times should be kept to ourselves. I love having a good time but the people i normally run against our have run keep the times to themselves period. I said this before if any of us run against other makes that we should try to come out on top with pride etc. I know for a fact that some people troll sites to learn these things as a group we have to come out on top. The internet is excellent for info but also a open book sometimes the same. I always try to come out on top for oldsmobile and future changes do too forums could be expensive so why give more info then needed money does not grow on trees guys. I would like to see all of us win with pride anywhere including shows why let others plan to win ahead of time.
#24
I have been coasting by on a couple of fast Olds at our track. Owned by one guy now, if he doesn't show up I need to represent. I realize a near stock 350 won't cut it at 3750 pounds, time to step up.
#25
I'm not in the 11's, but my Alero was my daily driver and I would run it at the track. Best time ever was a 14.53, not bad for a full interior car which was running 16.2 off the showroom floor
#26
stroke this
When are you going to step up & build that stroker motor that you want?
#27
This winter I am starting and will be completed before the year is out, hopefully. Hope to get at least one run this year. I have many projects to complete and a lot of fishing to do.
#28
good luck to all of you and have a good time at it,I always have and will set up drag days for people. I have also won a few things from those days that helps the next time I run. I was reading on real olds power that a 434 small block reader was switching to chevy power but hey I get it costs can be huge period. once again i will say this though we all have a good time but our real times should be kept quiet our ideas are what will make us rise above any competitors, our combos choices are minimal at best. I would love to get 200 to 300 together to run in late 2014 including other makes and have all of us make a great showing. I have raced at tracks and it is a great feeling when you win so why give away secrets even with street cars if you really race.
#30
amen on what he is doing at least it is a olds body, olds also had other engines over time for pondering purposes. I would have loved to go real pro myself but money does not grow on trees or time. I will always be happy representing our make when needed and doing it with class. I would truly love to get a lot of guys together late in 2014 fall with whatever bikes, chevys, buick olds whatever around Chicago and it would be cheap if we have a large crowd.
#31
yeah gld does that already with the kots . real street drags , test n tune , Byron packs the house with their big buck bracket bash once a month I think then there is bop race in sept , I think gld does a bop in june then cordova in oct. plenty of events.
#32
I am looking for heads up everyone including myself lines up and takes there chances and just has pure fun. I also copper would like to know if you saw any wings at the bopc swap meet last year.

Well, I have no shame in listing my numbers. In fact, I even have a web site setup with my engine combo to give fellow and future Oldsmobiler's something to start out with. My ride is 4065lbs with me in it. I take it to the Woodward cruise. I do the whole week think. Woodward is 30 miles from me. I drive the car to Lansing. About 100 miles from me. I run high 11's with the car. Here is the link to the web page. I cruis the car all summer long. http://home.comcast.net/~wmachines/ENGINE/index.htm

I used to drive mine to the track all the time. Two to three times a week weather permitting. My first Olds was a '76 Cutlass with a stock '74 455 swapped in that through stock dual exhaust would run 14.07 no matter what the weather. I should have kept that one as it was a money maker. Then I got the '67. When it was stock with the 330 I'd race on street tires. Then when the mildly built 455 went in it wouldn't hook on street rubber. So the routine changed a little to run 11s. I'd find a spot, empty the car, swap tires, and make as many passes as possible. Then I got that need to go faster and thought it best to get a trailer, which gave me a good reason to get a truck.
#36
My Oldsmaturd runs 11:60s, has done parts of 3 Power Tours, is driven as often as possible, averages about 16-17mpg, and made it all the way in last years Drag Week. I had the quickest Olds until the Tennessee stop, I missed that date by 15 minutes. I tore the center out of the crank pulley in a little town called Red Bud, Illinois. By the time I got the car patched together (when the pulley cracked it wrapped the belts in the fan, which then cracked my alternator case) the next day I missed the cutoff time. I cant really complain, my friend Carrie did claim the fastest Olds title, she never misses an opportunity to remind me! I intend to do Drag Week again, hopefully its not as brutally hot as last year!
#37
I haven't been there in a few years, but at Riverhead Raceway on Long Island, there was a guy who drove from the Bronx to the track in a black 73 Cutlass, and always entered it into the "Spectator Drags", where you did a lap against other spectators. Every time I saw him there, he ALWAYS won. How much modified it was I don't know, but I think it was a manual tranny.

The whole 'secrets' mentallity of certain 'drag racers' is exactly what turns me off about drag racing, but I usually run my stuff at the track. I haven't had the opportunity in the Olds yet, but certainly will this summer, take it up to Capitol in MD.
Used to have an 1/8 mile about 3 miles from my house, T&T wednesdays were nice, lot's of folks would drive right off the street and line up, no helmets were required, no tech, nothing. Used to be the same way in Colonial Beach, folks would come right from crusing the 'lap' around town, pick a fight, and pull right up to the lights at the track. Tell me that doesn't help keep it off the streets.
My driver has a pro-touring suspension, it will spin the entire length of the 1/8. Baby-ing out of the hole it's done a traction limited 7.33, and I've listed everything in that car multiple times on mulitple forums.
If you're a professional drag racer, other professionals have seen what you've run before, and know the general range you're capable of, so not sure even there how it would help. Just makes no sense to me.
BS grudge match stuff on the street, yeah, I GUESS I can see it, but still makes no sense to me. There's so many variables on the street, it just doesn't matter.
