Rearend ?s

I have a 69 442 with the stock 12 bolt type -o axle. 3.42 Posi.

I'd like to upgrade to a 3.91 gear ratio for bopefully better track times.

My question is what would be easier not necessarily cheaper?
Find the right carrier, gear set, reuild kit, posi rebuild kit and have custom axles made for the 12 bolt?

Or do the same for a 67 BOP 8.2 10 bolt that I have lying around?

I like both of these since they have bolt in axles.
I like the idea of keeping my original axle in the car it came from but I know i'm probably limited on parts.

Thanks in advance.

The 8.2 is not worth the effort.
Your best bet is to talk to "507Olds" on this site. "Monaz" is another one. not sure of his name spelling .
A chebby 12 bolt is another way to go. you can buy any and everything for them. If you do a lot of racing, a posi won't hold up very long.

If you have a chance, give me a call for some options & ideas. It might get lengthy if I write it out.

Don't even consider that 8.2 it will just be a waste of time and money. You could find an 8.5" 10 bolt. They are a little cheaper than a 12 bolt Chevy and still plenty strong. They can also be found with bolt in axles from the factory. Brian will set you on the right path.

In all reality I'll probably just wait a year from now and order a complete rearend from Moser or Strange.

Yes,you could do that too. I prefer the Moser housings,as they have made some improvements to the geometry, buy raising the upper bushing ears, and moving the shock mounts behind the lower control arms. Maybe Strange has followed suit lately, but last time I checked, they lept everything in the same place.
