Intake and Carb swap

If I replace a performer with the divider milled and a 750 holley with a Torker with cone and a 850 holley...This is on a roller motor. Cam is 538/538 - duration is 236/244@.050,range is 1800-6200. Car has 400 turbo and 3.73 rear,is it worth another 25 hp.Also what gains are seen in 1/4 mile ET when using a MSD 6AL with an Hei Pertronix. This car has Eddy/Mondello heads, head flow is 270/207 so they say.

I don't know that you would see much diff. using the MSD. Unless the car is suffering from an Ignition mis-fire, I don't see the need for the added spark. That being said, are you running the car at the Drag Strip? Do you have several runs from which you have kept the data ( including weather conditions)? Most likely any change you see would be slight, and an ET slip may be the only way to see the change.

As for Intake. With the Divder down, you are feeding the cylinders pretty well with the performer. I have not been a huge fan of Torkers as they have such a pinch in a few of the runners where Edel had to bend them to clear the bolts. They do respond to 1" spacers, but so do Performers. Try that first as well as the carb experiments. Fun to test different combos.

Just my opinions.

I had and have this same intake combo.

Had performer with 1 inch spacer with center milled down 1inch with 800 holley. Best was 11.80.

Have ported troker with 1 inch open spacer and a880-890 holley. best is 11.52.
Probably was worth 2 mph and 2 tenths but the comparison isnt even because between the old and new setups there was a cam swap and suspension work.

Still think the swap is worth a few tenths and mph with the right tune.

My combo has less cam and rear gearing than yours. My next build might include a Victor with more cam and compression but thats probably a few years off. Right now its small items and baby steps to quicker timeslips.

Hope this info helps.

Thanks fellows, the swap was someones opinion that thought it would bump it 40 hp.Sounded like a lot, actually it would be torker with 750 double pumper, but I have an automatic and don't need any bog issues. As far as the MSD goes I have one,and like the idea of a more complete burn, seems like it should make a little more power, but I am hearing on lower hp motors there's not enough of a difference to justify the cost and added wiring.Build only has 450 miles,so no track yet. It's a lot more street than strip.I do like going to the musclecar show and go when they come to the local tracks. For me that's Atco or Maplegrove. This motor was built just to try to keep up with the new muscle. It's an old vs new musclecar pride thing.

Fun is the name of the game for me. I dont bracket race, just go to the track a few times a year with friends and my dad. We race for fun and bettering our own times.
I would like to run nostalgia muscle car in the NMCA next summer at Joliet and see how that goes.
I also like trying do more with less when possible. Hopeing to knock off a few tenths by next season and still drive it to the track. Deffinately have fun with yours!

Your right about the fun,and running your car the way you do only means not beating the hell out of it every weekend, nothing wrong with that, when things break it can get expensive. Your doing thing right, your times are great, and lighting the load only makes sense.Guys with aluminum heads and roller cams and similar builds are not quite that fast yet,but were all having fun working on it.

jims2000 I really like the MPH you are putting down with your car! The ET will fall as you keep on with weight and launches. The car in my Sig Pic ran C heads and a stock lift " Cheater " cam under a Performer and only managed 114.5 on an 11.44. Your car runs well!!

Mine are race only so I have the luxury of running loose Convertors. 4200-4600 in the 10-sec. car and 5000-5200 in the 9-sec ride. They can make a big change in ET.

drjr56..keep us posted as you experiment and good luck..faster times will come and your careful approach is the right way to go about it. You may be pleaed with the spacer on the Performer..cheap to try it.
