I have a 1971 cutlass supreme with a 350 rocket. I am new to olds so I have never encountered rocker pivots. My question is I purchased comp cam roller rockers hydroulic lifters and a new cam and was wondering do I have to use the pivots on there??

No, but those roller rockers you bought need to have the right size stud and thread size. Hopefully you got the right ones..I think the 1441 kit is the right one. Sometimes the push rods length may not be correct but it all depends. If you only purchased the arms, you are not done buying stuff yet.

That other stuff you'll remove and just throw...in a box, after you have what you need.

What exactly did you buy? part numbers...

I purchased comp cams 1441 kit part # 249-1441 with rockers, studs and push rods and Edelbrock performer plus camshaft - edelbrock 3713 part number 350-3712. I haven't Played with motors in over 20 years and they were all chevy. What is the best way to adjust the valves I used to do top dead center take the play out and another 3/4 turn is that what I should do with this set up?? Thanks in advance

There is no adjustment for stock Olds lifters. For yours, turn over the engine by hand so each set of rockers is where the valve is closed all of the way. Tighten down the nut until the push rod will not spin by hand. Tighten one half more turn and go to the next valve that is closed. That is how I do it, there are others with different methods.

You will have to check your pushrods lengths for proper geometry and you may need to exchange your push rods for longer or shorter. You will need an adjustable push rod to check for the proper length required. Depending on the cam grind, head gasket thickness, head shaving, rocker arm design and spring height can all change the geometry. There are several instructional videos on Summit Racing, Comp Cam and Youtube.

Does anyone know what exhaust donuts (part number)go on my 1971 cutlass 350 rocket when I bought the car it was in peaces and they didn't come with the car. A guy at napa gave me some that he thought went on the car but I don't believe that are the correct ones since they crush when I tighten them down

You shouldn't need a doughnut style gasket. This joint is usually metal to metal no gasket. Some of the big block manifolds use a flange gasket, one side is a flange the other doughnut like. Some 307 use a doughnut but yours should not.

I thought there was a torque to foot pound # on the rockers???

Stock configuration is tighten to 25 ft/lbs, I usually tighten the pair evenly together. I personally like the stock set up, which fine for cams that are not too radical.

The OP doesn't have stock rockers, he has Comp Cams 1442 roller-tip rockers (this is what comes in the 1441-kit). Read the instructions that come with the rockers - they tell you exactly how to adjust them. I ASSUME the OP has installed the necessary studs and guide plates, right?

Note that the 1442 rockers use ball pivot, just like a Chebby.
