headers 72

Hello, i was wondering if anyone know how these headers will fit on a 72 cutlass supreme with 455? (hooker 3902 or Dick miller headers). I currently have flowtech headers and i"m questioning the fit seem to hang a little low. the part of the header thats at the trans cross member cutout seem to be 3in away. can some one give me some advice on which header will fit.

Flowtech headers are an attempt to copy hooker's, which hang low as well. Go with Dick Miller's, from what I understand they are the old Kooks design and so far I've heard they fit great.

on DMR website it tells you that they are to be installed with DMR 510 mini starter, I would assume any mini starter will work. American racing is the same thing, you need to run a mini starter.

I have 3 cars with headers two of which (1970 and 71) are 455's and have no mini starter in any of them. Never had a problem....just to add

Thanks everyone for the replies, sound like I may just stick with the flowtech or go back to stock ... Cant understand why header manufactures have not come up with a 2in header for cutlass supreme. if so there 1000 bucks....i see plenty for LS swap,,,i guess your full race or running cheap header...seem like there is no mid ground. lol

Like Hooker 3201s? You do realize you don't need "Cutlass Supreme" headers, right?

Yes , so your saying hooker 3201 has not fit issues and will not hang lower than cross member?

That wasn't your question. You only asked why no one made 2" headers for Oldsmobiles. Hooker does.

And them sitting a little low is not an issue unless you lowered your car.

That's my problem, had it lowering in the front with 2 inch drop spindles (new stock front spring) and 2 inch drop rear springs. I may have to live with the stock stance. too much room in fender well.

Maybe I can try a 1 inch coil front and rear.

Hate to be the one to say this but You might be better off with manifolds. My car is lowered 1.5 front and back, my ARH headers are tucked so high I had to get a aftermarket transmission cross member just to clear the 3" exhaust, they are almost touching the floor and they scrape. Especially if I have a passenger in the car.

Those look like flowtech headers. On the driver side header you can see a welded area at the top of the header.

You have a pic of how low they hang? Or how high they tuck?

Are those stainless steel headers. Do you have the ebay link where you bought them.

yes, these are stainless. I have to say the flange is 3/8". If I remember correctly, I bought them through the horsepower center on ebay. they were a little less than $200. plan on supplying your own hardware, as there's is the wrong size. for the price, who cares about the hardware. I don't know if I will have a chance to get the height measurement and information , I am heading out of town. if you're patient, shoot me a pm and I will get you the info.

Here's a little info on the ebay headers above....
seller is thehorsepowercenter
I had it written as one word, not sure if it is.
65-75 long tube headers 455/400
3" collector, 1 3/4" primary tubes t304 stainless
p/n hds-dpf-olds65 or 25dpf-olds65.

a magnet won't stick to the primaries, so to me the material quality seems decent. I did not need to break out a hammer, just moved the proportioning valve and watch routing on starter wires. they go in like a typical set of headers. they were $193.99 shipped.

Those are chinese hookers .

They are a copy of Hooker 3902 competition header. They will fit as well as Hooker which is known to hang little on the low side.

Chinese or not, you can't beat the price on these.
Stainless for $200 and they fit. I paid 6x more for mine and had all kinds of issues with them.

Even if you have to replace them in few years, well worth it.

I forgot that I had this picture. I sent this to another member a while back. the car has a set of stock springs as far as I can tell. headers are 4 1/2" off the ground. I don't have any other measurements

That is a good deal on those headers if they fit as good as hooker headers. Since they are stainless steel you will not have to worry about them rusting.

I did a quick search on ebay for these but the seller you bought them from does not have them for sale anymore. I found them for $173 through another seller on ebay. I assume these are the same as the ones you bought.

Here is another one I found for $167.78.
