Have 4.33 now--- my 60' times are suffering . Currently 11.60's at 113 and change w/ a blueprinted 468 and a Dale Smith factory race cam . I believe it is the last 70 w-30 still running stock in California . Currently in F/SA trim.

Thanks for responding -- My father raced for the factory late 60's and early 70's and new Ron Garey and the Chesrown guys well . His '67 W-30 is what got him the deal w/ Dale Smith and Olds. He ran the Manarina Olds cars out of western N.Y. Have a couple leads on 4.66 gears ---But sometimes folks don't know what is real or not . May get back to you re: yours . Thanks--- Brian Ranks

426 passes over 4 year w/ 4.66 gears hitting 6800 RPM at the stripe . After I cleaned off every tooth on the ring gear one nite, I could only find 4.33's ---- w/those I cross the line at about 6300 RPM

I didn't think a big block would turn those revs in any case............

That motor was built by my father and I in 2005 for $1600 plus our labor. Pretty basic stocker blueprint w/ 95% OEM parts we had kicking around . At that time, some of the parts were still available to buy. When I replaced it in 2009 Nothing was left for new parts to buy at any price-- the result being I had to provide OEM specs on any things and have them c&c made for me . Cost jumped to $7500 plus our labor . Pops has built many stock and super stock record holders over the years.

With 5:00 gear and Liberty pro-shifted 2:64 Super T10 4 speed, and 30X9 tire, shifting at 7,000 rpm (SBO 359 C. I. W31) I went through the traps at 6,600 at 114.5 mph. Needed a 5:13 or 5:38 gear if only NHRA allowed 12 bolt chevy rears at the time, which wasn't allowed till after I quit!

Dave-- My Dad ran a set of 5.38's in his '69 W-31 super stocker for a bit that year . Still have them , but a little too tall for my 455 stocker . Found a set of 4.66's through this post recently. Will put them in this fall after I finish freshening up the motor . Have taken most of this season off and want to come back w/ a bit quicker package . Looking to exploit a couple gray areas in the stock rulebook as well as switch to aluminum radiator { OK 1st time this year } .Set up for F/SA now but want to run E/SA next year as well .

curious
Were 5.13 & 5.38 gear sets only available to race teams or were these gear sets from aftermarket suppliers?
To my knowledge there were 4.33, 4.66 & 5.00 gear sets available @ the parts counter but I have never heard of these other 5 series gear sets.

Dave-- You are correct -- The 5.38's were given to the Olds factory drag teams by Dale Smith of Olds R&D . Don't know exactly how many were made , but it's possible that you could count them w/ your fingers and toes ! Late '68 -- to maybe early '70
