builds

There was a recent thread (since deleted) involving compiling engine and car builds. There was some disagreement regarding the particulars, so I thought I would try this. Let's have a thread with proven builds posted, one thread with a bunch of both vehicle and engine combinations. Anyone who is interested can post their build, regardless of the performance level, as long as there is some type of documentation regarding performance; track results, dyno sheets, etc. This is not for "bragging", the idea is to have a list of proven combinations of all performance levels so that those planning or researching a similar build can get some ideas of what to expect and how to budget.

PLEASE, to keep the clutter down, no comments on the builds, even if positive, let each post stand alone as a post. PM the poster if you would like more info. Then others can copy/paste or refer to it if the subject comes up.

Milan's Ported Iron Head BB 527HP Pump Gas

Big thanks go out to Milan for helping Don, (80 Rocket), & myself, for building this stout, pump gas, stealthy street thumper. We have been working together to test out the capabilities of a healthy, mildly ported, iron head, pump gas engine.
CIMG4836.jpg
Here's some details:
Early 425 block with .921 lifter bore
CN crank
Standard back cut Dura-Bond cam bearing , I add a small hole that I install at 6 o'clock and put the larger Dura-Bond hole at 3 o'clock , I feel the small hole at 6 o'clock helps on start up where the cam sits at rest , no restrictors.
Poor mans windage tray , cutting and welding stock Olds tray to eliminate the open area in the middle , also you can see lifter bore (.021)restrictors , Schubeck ceramic lifters are hollow and need to have restrictors installed.
Crank is internally balanced(also is a stick shift crank) , it needed 4 slugs of mallory , these are the front two , ARP main studs torqued to 110 lbs with ARP lube.
12point ARP nuts for oil pump(oil pump pressure is set at 70psi @ full by-pass)
Eagle rods(rod bolts are stretched to .006) , bearing clearances are .0025 rods , .0032 mains , side clearance .018 .
Pistons are ICON 25cc dish , for a very safe pump gas motor , 9.7:1 comp.
Cam is a Bullet 242 - 256 -112 in @ 109 .365 Mopar lobe on the intake , will make .600 lift with a 1.7 rocker. ,372 Ford lobe on the exhaust will make .575 lift with a 1.6 rocker. This is the same cam as in the stock "C" head motor.
Carb is a 950 Holley Ultra with a 1050 Quick fuel body( 1.585 ) profiled venturi's and BLP custom boosters. Emulsion package changed and idle feeds lowered.
Headers are 2 inch Super Comp , 20 collector.
Cylinder heads:
Cast iron "C"s - Edelbrock swirl polished, back cut stem stainless steel valves. The intakes were cut down to 2.10" and the exhaust are 1.68" back cut 30 degrees,
Raised the intake roof .150", raised the exhaust roof .100" widened as far as I could without punching through, pulled all the bowls back, welded the exhaust dividers, pollished the combustion chambers/ 78 CC after .015 clean up mill, straightened the short side radius, squared the edges, tear dropped the guides, removed all the bumps, opened up the push rod holes on top for the 1.7 rockers usage, redid the valve job, lapped all the valves, de-slagged the exterior, deburred around oil return holes, Viton seals, 5/16" push rods
With well ported heads Pipemax thinks 511 minimum HP .
Big thanks goes out to Kevin Engelking from Engelking's Dyno Service. Kevin really knows his **** and was very patient with us to maximize this combination.

This was our best pull -

527HP/ 520 lb/ft Max
I thought this overlay was really cool. This shows basically same short block/ same cam/ same dyno/ same heads before and after porting-
001_1.jpg
We saw a 45 HP gain after porting and the peak power came in 400 RPM higher. We all had a great time, learned a lot and all in all I think this is pretty impressive.

You can see more details about the head porting here -

This engine really sounded great and performed just as expected. Milan really knows what it takes to make these Olds sing. This engine is FOR SALE!
You could be the happy owner.

That's awesome. I think you need that engine for the 67 dave lol. I can't wait to run the heads you ported for me. Should make the 355 I'm building really be something else.
