building a torque plate

building a torque plate

has anyone built thier own torque plate ?if so what material and dimenssion were used .i have a nephew that works in a machine shop thats pretty handy .i ask this because in my area there isnt any olds specific builders let alone any that have torque plates for olds .it doesnt seem like it would be too hard .

I got the J&S a few years ago. It was economical and effective. I don't know if they are still in business (Jim Lapikas, in Iowa).

I have looked at a couple online but they’re all over 500 dollars .run to rund if you get a chance do you think you could give me the dimensions and bore size of yours ? I could get one made for the cost of the stock .

Just use a head gasket as a template.

thats what i was thinking i wonder if one inch aluminum plate would be adequate ill do some more research.thanks

Most of them are made out of cast iron or aluminum. You use the cast iron one if you are using a cast iron head and aluminum for aluminum. Most of them are about 1 3/4" thick and use hardened steel spacers to make up the difference for the head bolt length.

You want the head bolt to go into the block the same amount as it does with the cylinder head. Also you should use a head gasket with the plate for the most accurate results.
