1968 Toronado fuel sending unit
I am new at this....but hope some one can help me locate a fuel sending unit for my 1968 Toronado. I have been told that this part was unique to the 1968 model and that units from other model years will not work. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at the '68 Chassis Service Manual, your car uses the canister-style tank unit, and that was used on all of the full-size '67 and '68 Oldsmobiles (at least). I had trouble with the one on my '67 Delta 88. If you haven't seen one, here's what mine looked like.
Here's what it looks like disassembled. The black, hockey-puck thing is the float that moves up and down inside the canister.
Here's what a complete, NOS unit looks like. Among the problems with mine was that the sock filter was pretty much destroyed, and no replacements are made (that I could find).
These are not made new that I've ever been able to find. I did find that a sending unit for a '72 Delta 88, which IS made new, would work. It's a drop-in replacement. But because it doesn't have the canister to smooth out the sloshing around of the fuel as the car moves, the gauge needle wiggles around a bit, but it was either that or no fuel gauge at all, so I live with it and don't find it to be a problem at all.
These do come up for sale on ebay very rarely (in my experience), and when they do, the asking price is usually fairly heart-stopping (in my opinion).
I got mine at rockauto.com. Part number FG106A. $53.79.
