1964 Dynamic 88 Brake Booster

Hey everyone, I'm interested in finding a power brake booster for my 1964 Dynamic 88. I may need a proportioning valve as well. I want to convert my car to power brakes. It currently has 4 wheel manual drum brakes. You really need to stand on it to get this tank to stop. This car is for my 17 year old daughter's first cruiser. Any help I can get will be appreciated, even if it's just info on what I need to pull this off. Thanks in advance, Dave

Well, there's no such thing as a proportioning valve for four-wheel drum brakes.

Joe, he said he "may" need one. He didn't say he for sure needs one!

Power Brakes

What you are going to have to find, is a power boost unit , a vacuum tank and brake pedal and hangar assembly from a 63 or 64 fullsize Olds.
A whole parts car nearby is even better!
There were two types of power brake systems used in those years , Bendix and Moraine (Delco). The Bendix master cylinder was held on by 4 bolts, the Moraine by only 2.
If you are lucky enough to find a Moraine booster you can use a dual master cylinder from 1966 or later to convert to a dual braking system. Just make sure that the socket where the M/C pushrod goes is the same depth as the original M/C.

Thanks for the info. I looked through the manual this morning. Sounds like this could be a little complicated. I actually have a booster/ master/ pedal assembly from my '67 Cutlass. I was not too sure about adapting it over.

I think it would be much easier to seek out a 63 or 64 unit, than it would be to cobble a cutlass unit and try to make it fit.

In that case, I STRONGLY suggest that you also incorporate a dual circuit master cylinder. If you do use a factory booster, you'll need to swap or shorten the pushrod between the booster and M/C if you do convert to a dual circuit M/C.

Shoot me an email direct. I should have all the parts needed in case you need more than the booster alone. I have several parts cars. Regards Pat dead@mchsi.com

63 boosters are different they have a Tee where the vacuum goes in so they could utilize a vacuum canister. All the 64's I have had used the Bendix units. all have been power. I also agree with doing the dual circuit MC. I'm working on my 64 Jetstar and am converting that to discs also. Stuff I'm using is from a 69 98. Booster looks like it is almost bolt up. You on the other hand may have to drill some holes. You guys are pushing me to get back at my car. Once the boy gets his cab out from in front of the 64, might have to get at it.
