WTB: '70 BB Carb 7040251
I have been looking for a 7040251 on-line for a while now without tracking one down. I am looking for a solid / complete core good for a simple rebuild (cleaning/gaskets/bushings). I don't want to spend a fortune like eB@y seems to want. I want to replace my Holley with a nice QJ. I have an aftermrket intake so the '68/69 with the divorced choke is not an option. Let me know what you have. If you have a core or one that could be bolted on I would be interested. Shipping to 22101.
You can PM me or email at arodenhiser@verizion.net if you don't want your pricing public.
Thanks
Adam

What do you carb guru's think of a 7043250, a '73 350 auto carb? It is a 4MV a I think it should be the higher cfm carb than the '68. Would this a reasonable canidate for a lightly upgraded 350sb? Thanks for any opinions.

You are really not going to get anymore cfm out of any of those. The myth about the caddys & buicks having 800's is false too. They don't begin to spin fast enough to need a bigger carb like that.Of course, you can always flow them,& that will prove it too.
Just tune the carb properly. You might want to talk to someone like Smitty at M&J Proformance. He is very good with the Q-jets.He runs 10:40's in is 67 455 Cutlass with one.

as sx455raidercelticfan suggested earlier..... do you have anything that might do the trick. I am a night and weekend driver, not racing. I have a manual choke(not hooked up) 650 holley on it now that was on it in 1998 when I bought the car. It needs rebiult and choke kit. I would rather return to a comparable q-jet. I want a solid non divorced choke core (complete and moving) to rebuild myself. I originally wanted a BB carb since I have pipe dreams of a 455 someday. That now seems really far away with the overbuget rebuild of the body. If a core a kit costs me more that $250/300 i would rather just buy a reman from summit. But then I will lose the fun of doing it myself.

What do you think? Online I am looking at the Holley Reman 64-7249 which they list as a 4MC for the '70 350 or 455 in any model without a W package. Would I be making a mistake by buying this. I am not concerned about keeping it completely original. The percieved better economy is a plus too.

I've been using United Carburetor in Chicago since the '70's, and never had a problem!
They'll go the 'extra mile' to make you happy, which went away with self-serve gas!
Reasonable, and they do ship!

Thanks for all the advice, offers. I finally picked up a recently (18 months) rebuilt 7042251 for $75. I saw it on a running 400 in a Firebird. I will let you know how it turns out.
