Fuel Pump Eccentric
#5
Hmmmm.... the only timing cover I have ever seen with witness marks of cam contact was one that died on impact with a pole, which crammed the water pump into the cam.
To clarify: the cam bolt has a protrusion to prevent the cam from walking fwd in case that ever has occasion to happen.... but with the distributor/ oil pump drive gear constantly tugging the cam aftwards.... that just never really happens. In my experience.

All I know is, I took the water pump off of the car and the timing chain cover pushed outward destroying the blades on the water pump. I took the timing chain cover off the engine to see what was happening underneath and discovered the eccentric bolt was spun out and stripped. I mean the threading on the bottom 3/8 inch of the bolt was wiped clean. And the eccentric pin / tab was broken off. so it spun freely.
The car runs great! And it doesn't look like it has had a rebuild yet.
I never seen this before either.

I'll post a picture of the eccentric and bolt after I get them back from the shop.
I received help from a fellow member in locating a replacement eccentric and bolt. Thanks!
The timing chain cover was repaired with a large hammer.

Bonus for me was a very nice new set of pistons, rings and bored and honed block.
