'68 442 WTB - 4spd Bkup Light Switch

Hi all,
I'm looking for the switch that mounts to the 4spd manual trans case & shift rods that controls the backup lights. This is for a '68 442 with 4spd. The same part fits many other apps and years. I won't pay $400 for NOS. And would rather not pay $60 or more for re-man. Used & working with correct color wires (light green & dark green/white stripe - I THINK), including connector, for $25-$30 would be ideal.

PN 1993661 according to the Master Parts Catalog. Grp #2.698 Switch, Back Up Lamp.

A fellow on ePay has a NOS one at this link.

I'd appreciate if anyone could post a pic of one mounted. My mounting bracket is still on the car, just no switch.

Thanks, Rich

Is this the switch he needs? Anyone? Purple wiring is an extra cost item. I'm trying to get him to pay $399 for it.

I'm hoping to not have to spend more than I have to, but repro is likely the way, its looking.

Here is one at a popular repro vendor - $93

I like the fact my reverse lights work. I see so many cars where they don't. When you are at a show and a car is put in reverse and the lights come on, you know that car is complete. It's right, you know?

Agreed...

To that end, if 100.00% factory purity is not a concern, ANY switch can be installed and connected as you wish. Then the lights will work. Motorcycles, for example, have brake light switches that are fairly weather tolerant and activate when pulled on. Fabricate a mounting bracket and tie it to the reverse actuating lever. Voila'

Thanks for all the input

After doing some more research, I find that I'm missing not only the switch, but also the connecting rod (switch to shift lever), and protective shield. The mounting bracket is still there but damaged. I've decided to go ahead and spend the money for a repro kit that contains all the pieces. With the correct color wires of course! Right around a C-Note, before shipping.

I have an oem complete assembly: switch, bracket, shield and uncut harness with factory plug. I'll have to test the switch to see if it works. E-mail me to discuss: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.

Thanks anyway

Thanks, RocketMan, I appreciate your offer, but I actually went online and purchased a kit with the bracket, rod, switch (with wiring pigtail), shield, and mounting screws about an hour after I posted that last note.
