X2. I can spot one in a second on a high end restoration but if you are not looking for that then just go with the repop. (difference is minor) Repop and original are the same price if you can find an original but the original will likely need a repaint.

Hi 72
you will also want to look at the mounts
where radiator sits on core support
I have modified / bent the brackets on support and top plate to install 4 row rad in the past.

The only obvious thing is that the reproduction does not have the dimples for where to drill if it had the auxiliary transmission oil cooler. Other than that it is very hard to tell them apart.

In post 7 you can see them. They are inline with the mounting bolt holes and one is close to to the middle and the other off set to the driver side. Maybe 12 inches apart. The dimple is small but very visible in post 7. I can't remember but I do not believe these are found on the 2 or 3 core top plates.

Got it. Center and on the drivers side. I guess anyone who wanted it to look authentic (OEM) could press those dimples in if they were inclined to be perfect. Thank you for the information, now I can add that to my list of information. I'm going out on a limb and guess that ALL the 68-72 4 core rad top plates would have this feature? Or is it unique to the 70-72?
I'll have to check my top plate - it's for a 2/3 core rad. I don't remember seeing them, but that's likely because I never looked

Makes sense, heavy duty cooling for the engine, heavy duty cooling for the trans.
That said, I've been told that a properly flowing 3 core is as effective as a 4 core. Thoughts?

I would be willing to bet that is true on keeping a stock engine cool and likely a W-30 engine. I have no way to back that assumption up. But when it comes down to it, the 4 core has more surface area with another row of water so it would be capable or more cooling than a 3 core but how much I don't know.

I just checked my 3 core top plate it has the dimples like the pic in post 7 (4 core plate)
