Very nice part. Just an FYI, it will fit the 68-72 Cutlass models, but is technically wrong for 72 models. In 72 the back of the mirror was black as were the rubber trim holding the glass and the day/night flipper.
Good luck with your sale, I'm sure someone will want this.

Yes-- You are correct-- had a senior moment. I hear they changed the style to black backs in the 72 model year because the government passed a law-- they felt that the stainless caused oncoming glare

Not sure if it was legislation or not, but it was the issue of reflected glare. Funny thing is I can remember driving back in the day when all the mirrors were stainless and there was more reflected glare from the windshields than the mirrors. Honestly I don't know how the glare issue comes up to being valid, from a practical experienced point of view.

My late 71 Arlington built 72 has a stainless backed mirror so I would say its still good for early build 72s....it also does not have the 72 seat belt light either.

Our early built Freemont 72 (built in October of 71) had the black mirror, and did have the seat belt light. Did you buy or have your car since new? We did so I know the history on both of em.

I didnt have it since new so its true anything may have changed but considering all else appears original it seems less likely these two items would be changed particularly since those items wernt required until 1972 and this car was built in 1971.

72 Builds
I have parted lots of 72 A-bodies and from my experience this was a very mongrel year since they totally changed the bodies in 73-- Looks like whatever was around got used up-- I have seen lots of wrong fasteners different from the left and right side of the car-- seatbelts, mirrors--you name it.

I understand what you're saying. Kind of like the 70 fenders being used on 71 cars till the oversupply was used up. 1972 was supposed to be the year that Olds introduced the (73 ) Colonade body style, so it's very likely that some of the leftover 71 parts were used on 72 production. I just haven't seen it myself, but that doesn't mean the car didn't get built with it.

If you car was not equipped with the U21 gauge option, the seat belt warning light is not on the dash. It is an idiot light in the bottom of the fuel gauge.
