1971 Cutlass 4 door parts

Well, I've been slowly picking parts from this car for a while and decided it's time to finish it off. I've been using my sawzall to cut the panels off, but have reached a point where I wonder if someone wants the area around the trunk lid? I know the 4 door lid is the same as the convertible, so if someone has a bad section between the tail lights, or the channel for the gasket I need to know how to cut it and save those specific portions. So... I'm going to hold off cutting the rest of it up until next weekend. If you are interested in anything specific let me know. The right rear panel is removed and spoken for by a member here, and another member has expressed interest in portions of the floor board. I do have other floorboard portions, so if anyone wants this intact I can provide him with just the sections he needs.

The frame looks good and the holes where the core support attached are about as nice as I've seen. Too bad it won't fit the 2 door of this vintage.

Wow, John! You picked that carcass clean.

I'd hate to see what you do to a Thanksgiving turkey.

I've kicked myself too many times for tossing something that I later needed, or someone else asked me about. I hate to see usable parts of any kind going to the crusher

Many years ago, we cut up a '48 Mercury convertible with a torch.
We'd already gotten all the parts we wanted from it, and it had a little rust through in a couple of places, so who would ever want it, right?

We used to go to antique auto flea markets and force people to take NOS '50's trim pieces, in the original boxes, along with the things they had bought, because we couldn't GIVE the stuff away - I mean who would ever want to collect those crappy '50's cars anyway?

I guess the lesson is that people will pay top dollar for ANYTHING if you hold onto it long enough...

Eric, I remember my first real job in the early 1970's. I got to talking old cars with my boss. He said when he was a kid he dismantled probably 40 cars from the teens, that they had lots of brass in them. He remembered one, I believe he said a 1915 Rolls Royce that was in perfect condition sitting in an old ladies garage. That's the one he wished he could have turned the clock back and kept. I'm sure most of us have one or two we wished we'd saved

But then, at that time, they needed all the brass, steel, and chrome they could get for the War effort. I guess it doesn't seem so bad if I think of that car being melted down so that I wouldn't have to speak German today...

Wow - that one looked almost too nice to have been cut up...
I look forward to my shopping trip in a few weeks.

Homestar, I should have a couple sets of door panels. Do you have a color preference? I'll get photos for you this Saturday. If you would send me a PM with your shipping address I'll get total costs including shipping for you.

Rob, if this car had been back East in the rust belt I'm sure it would have been saved. There was rust through at the bottom of the back windshield and just not enough demand for a 4 door driver here. I'm looking forward to your visit as well and making a trip across town to check out Dave's convertible. John
