1966 only, rare even when new, and replaced mid-year by the in-dash Rally Pac.

Joe

I'm pretty sure the tach was available through out the model run. The rally pac was another option.

64-65 only, where it was automatically included with RPO D55 console. For 1966, RPO U15 was the sidewinder tack. Many folks have installed the 64-65 tach on 66-up consoles.

U16 was the tach, and it came on most W30s afaik; a couple had the rally pack option instead.

When I restored my 66 years ago, the windings in the dash tach were fried. I was able to stuff the guts from a modern tach into the housing. I glued the original hand on to the new unit. It works and looks original. The light even works.

66 only and you don't see them up for sale very often. The one above sold for over $700.

My car must have been ordered by the dealer. It has the tach in combination with boring bench seat, column shift two speed automatic.
No other instruments except gas gauge. The bench seats and two speed are being exchanged for buckets, 4 speed and console.

There were no other instruments offered on the 1966 cars until the Rally Pac came out in May, and with the Rally Pac you didn't get the sidewinder tach. Column shift was standard if you ordered an automatic, even with buckets. You had to pay extra for the floor shifter and console.

I've never seen a 66 with the Rally Pack.
Anyone here have one?

I have a set for a 67 but always thought it was incorrect for the 66.

It was first offered about May 1966, so pretty late in the model year. This Service Guild reprint also supports that it was available on 66 and 67 cars.

The "tach" on the console is a vacuum gauge. The switch on the dash could be for the convertible top or for a power antenna.

Joe nailed it. The switch on mine is for the convertible top.

For the 1966-67 model years, there were three options that required switches there, power top, power antenna, and power back window on the wagons. Any given car could have up to two of the three, so depending on the options you could have none, one, or two switches. The switches all looked alike. A convertible or wagon with power antenna would have dual switches.

What is the rarity of a rear blower/defogger option for a 66-67 cutlass/442 ?
I think the switch went in this location also.

Lonnie is correct. A hardtop with rear defrost and power antenna would have two switches. It was convert top / wagon glass / rear def for one switch and power antenna for the other. The dash always has holes for two switches; the badge was moved to the right a space or two and tiny new holes made for the pins of it.
