Large stash of used alternators.
Picked up a stash today and am going to go through them to see what I have.
It will take me several days to catalog the #'s. If you have a numbered preference one you are
looking for, let me know in this thread and I will see if it's there. Since I need to price them to carry
on here, let's say $35 + the ride.

Would someone have a few minutes to spare to help me further my education? I have never heard of a diamond back alternator, what is it, why is it special, what makes it worth big money, what automobile did they originally come on?
Thanks
Thanks

I learned something new today too. Never heard of Diamond Back reference to alternators.
Also broke one of my own personal rules. Don't comment in a for sale thread unless you're a buyer. But that is my opinion only, you guys carry on.

Do these diamond backs also have the "open faces" in all three years? I know my 71 has the open face which I presume is for cooling, but looks like it would let all the dirt inside. (just continuing the discussion for educational purposes, since only the back side has been mentioned)

Most all are open face though '5 spoke' as it were. When I put up the $500 per, it was just a #. I don't think there are
any really valuable units in this mess of alternators. I could be wrong. Being open faced they should have some value though.

OK, here's the #'s and the date codes fellas. All are 5 spoke with the exception of 1 6 spoke and 2 3 spoke units.
I figure $35 each plus the shipping would be fine guys. Let me know if you have any questions. Most have fans, some don't.

I had to make it a little easier to find them. The're in the shop now.
Patton has 1st crack at the 1100929 and 11002450.
Matt over on F/B has dibs on the 1100928

Guys, I had Joe change the thread title. I should have been better versed before posting a thread for these alternators.
I didn't mean to mislead anyone and no one has called me out on it but me. My apologies fellas.

I have sold a few but there are plenty left.
Looks like they will go USPS tracked and insured for $15 within the lower 48.

I might be interested in these: 1103048 63a 8L3
1103056 63a 9B14
But my question would be are these for 1978 and 1979, or 1968 and 1969?
I'm looking to get original looking alternators for my 1979 Cutlass Supremes, they both are 63a users. Both cars were built October 1978, so if 1103056 is 1979 no big deal, close enough.

Alternators
FYI on the open face alternators, Olds were thin and thick spoked whereas Pontiac were all thick spoked.
Also, I believe the 1971 442 alternators were not open face or had the diamond back.
The only true 1100934 alternator I have seen has neither.
The 1100934 number continues through to 1974 on the Omega and Chevrolet Nova among others.
The 1972 dated and later 1100934 alts are neither open face nor diamond backed.
Hope this helps.

1970 Olds W30 455
1969-71 442s (along with Corvettes) got new-fangled 10SI alternators with internal regulators. The cases were unique to those applications only and unlike the more common SI family alternators. The 1969s look like the first photo (and thus the "diamond back" name). The 1970-71 look like the second (note the raised boss at the 3:00 position that makes them different). Most of these got discarded or returned as cores when the alternator was replaced, which is why they are worth so much to restorers today.

Well, thought you were guy selling alternators. I obviously had a big thumb. Haven't been here for a few years. It takes a lot of time to restore and OEM #s matching 442 W30 from scrapyards around the country. Try 11 years.
