Rear coil springs, 66 442.
#3
Just a question. Not trying to hijack the thread. What are the differences between 442 rear springs and Cutlass convertible rear springs, would they interchange. Just for education purposes please.

They used so many different springs for different models at GM usually... also I believe main differences on cutlass' were weight distribution for Big blocks(heavier) or small blocks/L6... all 442's had big blocks in 66 most cutlass convertibles had small blocks... but fit would be fine especially good if the cutlass convertible has a big block now that needs the stronger springs... but to balance it you would want big block springs in front also I would think... if you order front and rears at PST or JC whitney etc. they sell different springs for small block/6 cyl and big blocks...

Springs
Also not to hijack, I was on a site that sells springs (can't remember where it was now) and there was a different spring for just about every model of 67 Cutlass at least. Coupes had one type, sedans another, different engines of course. I thought my 67 conv. sat too high and instead of buying lowering springs, I cut one coil out of the front (you can do that on the front) dropping it 2 inches. For the rear, I used stock springs from a 4 dr sedan which lowered the rear. I also cut the top small coil from the convertible spring and installed them on the rear of my 65 Buick Special conv which took the sag out of the rear and gave it a slight lift and better stance.
