OAI hood fiberglass portion

This is a "I can't bring myself to toss it" sort of thing.
This is what's left of my hood after the accident. It's in bad shape, but I think If you have good glass skills you could bring it back to life.

I'll put up $100 on this just for a price, but if you want it...seriously...make me an offer. I just might take it. I'd really hate for this thing to go to the trash.

Wow! That is a shame, But I agree, don't toss it. I think it would look cool hanging on the garage wall ( a "man cave" type thing). I have some old Mopar hoods (bent) and I thought it would be cool to paint them Petty blue and paint 426CI on them like the old stock cars had. Your 442 hood could also be a great conversation piece!

Need it gone. It's being stored outside at my aunt and uncles house....along with the frame I have for sale.
Almost no offer will be refused. I need these things gone.

I have a couple hoods like that, although maybe not as bad as yours. Good luck with the sale. If you were close to Indy, I'd come get it.

Randy, I've got a buddy across town restoring a Rallye 350 that's missing the hood. He's a real good body and paint guy so I'm sure he could fix it if anyone could. Can you come up with a ball park shipping cost to Medford Oregon, zip 97501? Could you bend the frame and flatten it somewhat enough to include it in the box? I know it will take time to package it up, so include costs for that in your shipping estimate.

Whoops! I realized now it was a car frame not the metal hood frame.

The car is LOOOOONG gone and that portion of the hood went with it so all I have is what's pictured. Unfortunately I didn't think to keep the underside airbox.

If you still want me to I can find out about getting it up there, but I don't think it will be cheap and it's definitely oversized.

Yeah, that's what I'm expecting. I've heard from several people that Fastenal 3ird party shipping is reasonable. Could you make an estimate on the size/weight of it packaged up? Maybe I could request a quote from them so you don't have to spend a lot of time for a sale that may not happen.

20/20 hindsight, the air box and metal frame would have been nice to have with it. But it is what it is.

John I think...THINK... the metal frame is the same for a standard hood and an OAI hood....so removing the metal skin from a standard hood might suffice.

This was discussed a few years ago and I was 99% sure Joe P. said they were different. But a fiberglass hood on a metal frame that's not 100% correct would still be better than an incorrect flat hood!

I'd guess the weight somewhere around 35-40 lbs?...might even be 50. I really don't have a way to weigh it and with packaging it will probably go up a bit.

We could round up to 50. I could measure the width/length here. Do you have an idea on how you would package it? I've done fenders deck lids and doors wrapped in cardboard from appliance stores. The fiberglass will likely need more support than just a wrap of cardboard.

I'd need some help as I've never packaged anything that large before. Suggestions would be welcomed and appreciated.

I put a standard hood frame on a original top section and it was not as easy as I thought it would be but turned out pretty darn nice and I doubt anyone could ever tell. It is the one on my Vista and some of you guys have seen that. The small section right above the hood latch maybe about 1 square foot total is different between the two and that was the hardest part if I remember right.I had to trim both sides of the original frame maybe about a half inch or so if I remember right? It was basically just the vertical part of that lip, from front to back

Fiberglass hood

Hi,
I saw your damaged hood and I would be interested in purchasing it if the shipping cost is not outrageous. I live in Honolulu, Hawaii and I am in the final stages of putting my car together. I have a 1972 cutlass supreme. Let me know if we could make a deal. My phone number is 808-351-2769.
Thanks,
Bryan

I've decided I can't/won't ship this. It would just be too much of a hassle. If someone local wants it...please come get it.
