It would help if you knew the application. The small diameter thread says it's for a 1970- older vehicle, but I don't know if they all had the same vacuum operation (either vacuum to close or vacuum to open).

1/2 " NPT, in the call for heat, this valve opens, under vacuum, to allow warm coolant into the heater core.
