73 Olds 98 88 Parts Car Not Mine

Not mine, looks like a clean car, seller doesn't seem to care, just wants to try and make money by parting it out. More pictures would also be helpful.

That is a nice old car. Makes you wonder if he has a title or if it is stolen or he is just a jack wagon.

What does "Jack Wagon" mean? Can I assume it means someone who doesn't care about the car for what it is, like we do, and just wants to make money from whatever parts he can sell?

Jack Wagon is a polite term for Jack Azz.

New York car. Could be frame and floors rusted out even with exterior body looking nice.

Ah. In that case, I agree the seller probably is. I emailed him about a few parts, and no reply so far.

Above is his ad for the whole car. Apparently nothing wrong with it, he just wants to retire on the sale of it.

I like that he calls it a delta 98 and rust just started forming over the winter.

It may have. It could've been in a garage until he got it, then left it outside in the elements because he couldn't care less about preserving it. According to the map, he's right near the water, salt air blowing around constantly.

Yeah, a lot of non Olds people call them that. Water off a ducks back Glenn. I agree that it's funny that rust just appeared, but given the location maybe it could happen. Some of that stuff under the hood looks like it took much longer than over the winter to happen though.

The first ad is expired and doesn't show anything when I clik on the link. $4k is a lot of money for a car that has basically little equipment. That 455 is also a J head detuned engine with only 225 hp and not all that swift off the line even with the 2.73 std rear axle. IIRC they weighed in at over 5,000 lbs.

The car is interestingly low-optioned for a 98. No cruise control. No rear defogger. Base AM radio. Non-power windows and locks. It does have a clock and A/C. Whoever bought it originally wanted to get into Oldsmobile luxury on a budget.

This is the hardtop model, not the Luxury sedan. That explains the lack of PW and Power Seats. The front clock was standard. The rear one was standard for the Luxury sedan and coupe.
The front seat looks to be in surprisingly good condition. A good cleaning and it might look like new.

According to the '73 Olds Dealer Specs Book, power windows were standard on the Luxury Coupe and Luxury Sedan and optional on any other 98. Ditto for power seats. Power locks, to finish the thought, were not standard on any version of the 98 and were an option on all of them. I would have found it hard to believe that there was ever a 98 produced in any year that you couldn't get power everything on. In one sense, this sort of defined the 98.

According to the specs book, the rear clock was standard only on Luxury Sedans (not Coupes, apparently) "with armrest bench front seat."
