70 71 72 3sp auto floor shifter Cutlass / 442

SOLD!

This 70 71 72 (please correct me if that is wrong) 3 speed shifter was incorrectly in my '68 when purchased. Chrome has some scatches but is still shiny. No ball or linkages. Asking $75 obo plus shipping from 22101. Count on a box 20X6X12 @3 1/2 lbs. please ask any questions. Will consider shifter for trade for for a good 70-72 BBO Q-Jet carb core.

Thanks for looking.

Adam

Well.... you might want to check with the guru's before you sell this. I thought the only difference was the detent, the curved metal piece with the notches cut into it. I thought the 2 speed and 3 speed shifters were the same and just had two different detents with the correct number/placement of notches cut into it for the different gear shift positions. John

The shift detent, as you say, can be changed on this shifter. The big difference is the integral bracket for the Park/Neutral Safety switch. In '68/69 and maybe '70 it was in the console. Once the steering wheel lock came into play the console shifter had rods and levers to engage the steering column mounted PNS switch. I tried and tried and tried to mockup one in this shifter with little luck. I got it work okay enough for safety inspections and then by-passed it after. I mocked up a backup lights switch with a tone arm return switch out of an old turntable. Below is a (atleast) '68/69 floor shifter.

Notice the bracket for the PNS switch on the bottom right. It is part of the shifter itself and not a bolt on. The console bracket on the front is a bolt on.

Mine, '70?-'72 is still for sale.

Your right Adam, I'd forgotten about the neutral safety switch. Well... if you strike out here there's always fleabay! John
