Hello Gentlemen,

I have a few questions on 1970-72 Cutlass blue colors. The 1970 Twilight Blue and 1972 Royal Blue have the same paint code # 28 and GM # WA4027. Does that mean they are the same colors with different names?

The 1971 Monarch Blue is paint code # 29, with GM # WA4077. Safe to say it is different? Color chip looks the same to me.

I've seen Twilight Blue and LOVE it. It is a 1970 only color. Anybody have a picture of a 1971 or 1972 Cutlass or 442 in the Monarch or Royal Blue?

in some years the GM number is not always the same as in other years. All the info I have says 1970 #28 Twilight Blue (2166) is the same as 72 #28 Roayl Blue (2166) though I don't know if I have ever seen a 72 in Royal Blue - they must be out there though.

I've never seen a Royal or Monarch Blue car either. That's why I'm so curious. I love Twilight Blue, but my car is a 71. Don't want to (eventually) paint it a 70 color. Reaaly want see examples of the Royal & Monarch.

Hi Lou: It's Brian Smith, the guy that bought your 72 cowl and roof. It's still not on, but it's coming later this year.
You are right about Twilight blue, it's an awesome color. A friend of mine had a 70 SX in that color. I have only seen one 71 Monarch blue Cutlass, and it is a lifeless diplomat blue color, you don't want it in my opinion. It's nothing like Twilight blue. Actually, according to the Upholstery and Fabrics book, Code 29, Monarch blue was not available for the intermediates. The owner of the one I saw said it was an extra cost for that color. The choice in 71 anyway, was Nordic or Viking blue. I don't know about the Royal blue in 72, but I have never seen a 72 Cutlass in a Twilight blue shade. I believe Royal is very similiar to Monarch blue. Perhaps others will chime in about the Royal blue.

Hey Brian. Hope all is well. Wish I kept the cowl. I now need it. No biggie. Looks like the Watermelon is now an organ doner. She was going to be Twilight Blue but frame is shot, floors need work so on and so on. I tried selling it here, no bites. So a parts car she becomes.

I really want to paint my 71 in Twilight Blue but it isn't correct for the year. I was hoping Monarch Blue would be a match. Can't win I guess.

In the big picture I wouldn't really worry too much about whether it is correct or not. There are so many versions of blue out there anyway, very few are correct. Pick the color you like and enjoy it.

Ultimately it does come down to personal preference. Just would like to visualize it before commiting. I've seen a few 1970 442/Cutlasses in that color. Really want to see what a 71 would look like before taking the big step. I've searched the internet and only found the attached pictures (in a series of the same car) of a 1970.

Not to be a smart @$$ but to me its the same thing, ok - with a little different bumper. PM me your email address and I will send you images of my car in all different lighting - Twilight Blue - the nice thing about many of these colors is how different they look in different lighting. Or to some that may be a negative

BY the way the car above looks like it has a white interior and not pearl. It may be the lighting but does make a difference. Either way the dark blue looks great against either

Some say the colors are the same but I don't think so. Royal blue looks to be much darker. This picture (not mine) is suppose to be a royal blue car. Even with a cloudy day I don't think Twighlight blue ever could look this dark. I like both colors.

I appreciate the sentiment. As much as I would want to keep it forever, I'm thinking that eventually I will have to sell (kids college tuition being the biggest reason). That being said, resale value becomes a concern.

I doubt that is an original paint job (just look at the side stripes) I'm guessing this was the closest blue they could find or a blue they preferred over the actual color. I like it none-the-less just betting its not the right match.

This is why you haven't seen one in either of those colors.

Since it's yours, try to get some Cadillac color samples and check out the Firemist colors - late '60's early '70's - there's some colors that really jump out on you!
Keep in mind you're looking at lacquer samples, and todays paints will look different.

It's interesting how color is dependent on a car. I don't care for Twilight Blue on a 4-4-2. It doesn't move me on a GTO either. But as a Judge? I LOVE IT!

I think the dark blues are great for combining with brighter colors like Judge badging or W30 stripes.

Well, in the Judge's case, it's the pink stripes that change the color a bit. White W-30 stripes do nothing for me on that color.

Yep, that magenta really pops against a blue - but I do like white as well

Maybe its my computer monitor but that looks like it has a little green it it and not quite Twilight Blue.

This is more what know Twilight to be.
My car was originally Twilight but in a previous life was painted red at one point and now its current medium blue which isn't an Olds color. If its ever painted its going back to Twilight.

I know it can be the difference in formula's, type of paint (mine is waterbase), lighting, etc, but his seems to be a more accurate representation of what I remember original Twighlight blue cars looked like.

Hey Steven, it may be the camera or picture white balance that is making the colours look different, though yours looks the same to me. There were many photos I took that did not look anything like the real thing.
The paint was an "orignal" colour formula from Dupont Chroma Premier.

Hi Guys, due to work don't get to get on here but my 72 Cutlass W29 442 (Cutlass S upgrade) is a Royal Blue, 28 color car. Has been resprayed silver but under the carpet and behind the guards is a dark blue, very similar to Mazda 2003 Serpreme Blue (wife's car).
Should have white stripes and black lnterior, we found the build sheet above the tank. Will try to post some more pictures if anyone is interested.

I know I am a little late to the party, but here is my 72 CS convert which I believe was special order royal blue - I purchased from the original owner, 1 repaint of factory color prior to me. I'd have to go out and refresh my memory on the trim tag and original paperwork again....

Giftman23 that is very nice. On my build sheet it has code Y62-Spec Paint Chg. I need the am-fm radio that someone removed before we got the car.
Does anyone know if in block number 96 on the build sheet that it has EXP would that be export?
