1970 Twilight Blue - 1972 Royal Blue ?

Does anyone know if there is any difference between the 1970 color Twilight Blue and the 1972 color Royal Blue? I have the Ditzler / PPG original page for 1972 as I am contemplating my new color and it has paint code 28 Royal Blue Poly (2166). It looks the same and it does have the same paint code that is on the 1970 Ditzler / PPG index Twilight Blue (2166) paint code 28. Could it be a typo? Or would they actually change the name of a color? Check out autocolorlibrary.com links below to see what I mean...

Thanks guys

IIRC Twighlight Blue was darker than 72 Viking but lighter than 72 Royal Blue but you are correct, same numbers, and the names are just marketing choices. The majority of the colors were offered each year on all GM cars back then, they were just named differently. Chevy, Buick and Olds had a dark blue. In 70 Olds was Twilight Blue, Chevy was Fathom Blue Poly and Buick was Diplomat Blue Irid they all had the same code 28 - 2166. Interestingly Chevy's 72 dark blue was the same code and same name so maybe Oldsmobile changed the name only in 72.

So just to be clear. Are you saying that Olds 1970 Twilight Blue and Chevy's Fathom Blue are the same color? Olds Matador Red and Sherwood Green same as Chevy's Cranberry and Forest Green etc? They all have the same color codes...

That's pretty much true, I have a paint chart that gives the paint codes and the name used by the different divisions. There are a couple colors that are unique to some of the divisions though.

Correct and as mentioned each division had colors unique to certain models and to themselves yet if pushed the dealer could order you a 442 with a Toro only color or a 442 with a vette color. Look at the W30 registry and you'll even see a W30 with Chrysler Plumb Crazy straight from the Olds Lansing factory.
