1971 only color, "Sienna".
Does any one have a clue how to find out the production #'s
by color? I E-Mailed the Historian @ the Olds museum, and have spoken with "Cutlass guys" @ our local chapter of OCA, (R.E.Olds, Lansing MI)
to no avail. The Historian @ The Olds Museum told me, "there were no production record breakdowns by color".
Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank You, JLK

I don't think you're going to find the answer to this question; Oldsmobile production did not keep track of this type of record for logistical purposes. The question was asked in a different thread by another member and remains unanswered to date. It spurred a raging debate about Not even GM Canada will be able to find this answer for you, because they only kept production records for cars that were built in or exported to Canada.

Sienna is an interesting color. I don't remember seeing them in stand out numbers back in the 70's and I was an Olds watcher back then too. If you're planning to use the Sienna on your car as an original color for a repaint, I would suggest you take a flake off someplace like a door pillar and have it color analyzed for the most exact color match.

I saw a '71 Vista I think was that color for sale a few years back.
Should have bought it.

The color is offered in all the literature, why would it be more rare??

I've had several 1971's with Sienna interiors but I hadn't thought about the exterior being that color. I had a 1971 Supreme parts car with what looked like a Root Beer brown exterior with Sienna interior... maybe that was the color for both in/out on the car? John

You were told this because that is the only answer there is. No records on that. Period. Sorry, that is just one of the bazillion "how many" questions with the same answer.

I don't think the issue is whether the color is rare, it's just about how many cars had that color on it. IMO You're right, its not more rare, anymore than having a VC repainted a custom color that you designed yourself. BTW, nice pic of the VC. Kinda wish I had one. My favorite colors on the VC are Saturn Gold, Sunfire Yellow, Bamboo and Pinehurst Green because of the way the woodgrain offsets them.

Maybe when you get around to painting your VC you can do it in Sienna, but I don't think it would go really well with the Blue interior.

It was Nordic blue and will be Nordic Blue,
and never the 'twain shall meet.

The woodgrain with the blue looks like a log in the water of a clear blue mountain lake, what more could you want?
I'm going to get some of those leaping fish decals for the sides too.


I like that color (if it's Sienna) with a black interior like that car had. A lot more than mine.
Look good on a Cutlass with a black vinyl top and interior.

Somebody has that Vista and is taking care of it I hope, it was for sale in Oklahoma O.K. in '06, 455-3 seater.

I hate looking at it but here are a few more pics.

The car had some kind of dings and bonks all over it and they looked too deep and scattered around for hailstones?

Thanks for confirmation, that is what I suspected.
I have been to most of the OCA "Homecoming" shows for the past 10 years, and finally this year I saw a 4-door painted this color in the "For Sale" lot.
Yes the color in the photo's is correct (kind of a reddish brown),
and mine is origionally this color (paint code 67) with a Sandalwood (off-white) top, and a Sienna interior.

The original paint code for my car (The one in the picture) is 67-Sienna with E-Sandlewood viynl roof. Someone painted it before I bought it,hope to change it back someday. I know where there is a 71 SX thats original 67-Sienna not to far from me as a matter of fact I think I have a picture of it somewhere.

I'm postive you got the right answer to your question...just no records on that sort of thing.

I did want to comment that if you're thinking of repainting it original code 67,getting the paint mixed right is the easy part. The color of the primer is very important. It will effect the final outcome. So test the paint you are going to use with at least two different primer colors. Think...grey or red oxide primer. The grey primer will produce a lighter color, the red will be darker by a shade or two.

My ride as allways been code 67 with the pearl interior, black dash etc. I've painted it twice and next time nordic blue will get heavy consideration.

I"ve owned my car for 24 years, and have personally seen only five 71's with sienna in that time frame. Three of those had seinna interior and the other two pearl. With that said, I don't think its a rare color, nor do I think its desirable, thats probably why you don't see more of them.

Gotta ask, why is it on 2X10's? Is there something about wood that helps the tires? I'm thinking it's just to get more storage under the car

thanks, Allan. that was the prior owners set up. he had a cool scissor lift underneath the car. i think the 2X10's helped raise the car a bit for the lift.

It's a good idea, lots of guys use plywood squares they park them on.
It keeps the moisture from wicking up the tires from the concrete to the the suspension and underbody.

I believe Olds offered 2 different browns in '71, #67 Sienna and a darker Sable (sorry I don't know that paint code). My 71 SX Convertible is Sienna body, seats and carpet with the white top. Many have said that Viking or Nordic Blue are the classic colors for a 71 Cutlass, but I would go with the metallic (Peruvian) red offered on the Toronado if I decided to change.
