I've seen them multiple ways. Sometimes black and sometimes the dove gray (non metallic) color like shocks. And sometimes, a mix; I.e. Gray mechanism and base and black lug wrench. I think it may have depended on the plant your car was built or the jack supplier (there were 2 or 3 suppliers and different styles - T cross section on shaft and square tube type shaft, etc.). For my 70 SX, I'd did gray on mechanism, base and lug wrench after talking to several people on this site. I was told that gray seems to be the common color. For what it's worth, I used Plasticoat T37 Federal Gray paint.
