Should epoxy primer or another type of primer be used over the existing paint after the paint has been thoroughly cleaned and scuffed? What do you guys think of Eastwood paint products? Appreciate it.

I used PPG DPLF epoxy primer over some 40 year old lacquer, mostly inside the trunk. Some original red oxide primer remained on the outside, and the OEM black parts dept. paint was still on the NOS fenders.

Sealer is important especially if you have multiple materials exposed with your final prep step (400 or 600 grit wet).....

Give the color an even base and keep it all from interacting with your new finish coats.

Worth the cost and time. Buy the best materials you can afford.......

^Best advice right here. I've used PPG and Eastwood for years and best advise is to use a primer or sealer that will work(together) best for the final paint that you are using. Some paints and primers don't get along well and will ruin an otherwise perfect prep/spray job. If priming the entire car is out the the question. Blend the best you can panel to panel.

iirc the PPG DPLF has to be top coated within a week, best to do it on the same day, or it has to be sanded.

Yeah, at that point it's really just the first coat of "paint".
