66’ 442 from end restoration paint color help
I have searched just about ever post under “paint” and “major builds and projects” hoping to look for the correct colors for my Lansing built 1966 442. I am specifically looking at what color for springs, shocks, control arms, sway bar & brackets? Also color for steering components, inner/outer tie rods, center link, couplings, pitman arm, and steering box? What is the bottom of hood painted. Body color or black? I would be very appreciative of any help I can get from the experts. Thanks... ~Dave

Semigloss black or natural (unpainted). The latter would be correct for the steering box, pitman arm, spindles and backing plates (some were painted, however), driveshaft. Shocks were medium gray, some parts were dipped such as lower control arms, so the ends were unpainted. Different suppliers or timelines could have differences, so most people "give up" and use black most places. Bolts were phosphate coated, not painted usually.

..to add once again to this post... does anybody know the correct "GLOSS" level for the black paint applied to the "Oldsmobile" trim across the back of the trunk lid. This trim is a one year only, offered on the 1966 442 only. I am restoring mine and it currently appears to be pretty flat... which is understandable from a car that is almost 54 years old..

Hi Rocket Olds..
Both the 66' & 67' 442 shared a lot of parts, however they did not share the black trim piece across front of the trunk lid. See photo's below of the 1967 trim piece...
Now compare that to the 1966 442's trunk trim piece, that had chrome strip along the top & bottom....
I have seen a lot of 66' 442's that are using the 67' trim panel... and a few 67' 442's that are using the 66' trim panel... neither of these 2 applications will look right, and a dead give a way.

Had not paid that much attention. but seeing those pics opened my eyes. BIG difference in the details. At first glance comparing mine to the pic shown in previous post in my mind they were the same. Thanks for the heads up. you guys are the greatest.
