Best car movies of all time!
The title explains itself. Give us a great car movie. I am trying to get a good collection. I'll start.
Two Lane Blacktop
I watched this one last night. My wife thought it was dumb. I told her... "This is a great movie. It is about the cars, not the people."

It is what they consider the top 40 car movies.
I personally like Mad Max, Blues Brothers, Bullitt, American Graffiti, Smokey and The Bandit, & Gone In Sixty Seconds.

And actually, I'm watching The Seven-Ups right now, and Roy Shieder just smashed into the back of the truck. It was a Pontiac, but the in-car sound was suspiciously similar to the in-car sound in Steve McQueen's Mustang in Bullit. Hmmmm....

Gumball Rally, 1976. NOT the movie Cannonball Rally, though it was based on the real Cannonball Rally.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074597/
In their quest for accuracy, the director used real cars on a dynomometer to get the audio from the cars' engines' to match the video of the tachometer on the dashboards. Rumor is that at least one expensive collector car motor was fragged in the process.

Demolition Man
Demolition Man
"It's a 1970 Oldsmobile 4-4-2, with a 455 cubic inch engine, radial tires and BUCKET SEATS!" - Sandra Bullock
I have never been in more awe of a woman.
It's not a car movie, but I believe the futuristic cars in the movie were mostly Oldsmobile concept cars.

I would like to add another, The Wraith with Charlie Sheen, he drove that black Dodge I think it was called a Turbo Interceptor. I have that on vhs I'll have to dig it up and watch it, one of my favs as a kid because it was filmed in my home town of Tucson AZ. (plus it's an awesome flick)

Unofficial Oldsmobile Centennial Celebration Video
While not a movie, I just thought this Olds video should get some mentioning to those who do not know about it...
http://newmand.oldsgmail.com/video.htm
It is one hour of nothing but Oldsmobiles starting from the oldest to the newest. Other side shots include some from the working production lines (with sparks a flying), the buildings that no longer stand, Linda Vaughn, and old Olds ads.
I have the VHS and DVD and have watched them many times.
There is no commentary but instead there is about an hour of car (and Olds) related songs, some being good driving songs that I recorded for that purpose.
Doug is a very honest guy - I have known him for 10 years+.
I know every Olds lover would enjoy this video as much as I do.
It is well worth the cost.
As for car movies, the Blues Brothers, Gone in 60 Seconds (the old one), Mad Max, Convoy, and the Smokey and the Bandit series are my favorites. I am stuck in the old days it seems...

The Hollywood Knights.
Starring Tony Danza, Michelle Pfeifer, & PHR's Project X.
The Italian Job
Yeah foreign CRAP, but good chase scenes
Ronin
More good chase scenes
The Transporter
An Audi yes, but still pretty cool.

Here's an off-the-wall "car" movie:
My Cousin Vinny
Think about it. Knowing the subtle differences in the suspensions of early 60s GM compacts is the whole key to the trial in the movie. I've always been a Marisa Tomei fan, but the courtroom scene when the DA asks her the firing order of a 1958 327 Chevy is classic.

I liked the movie "THE WRAITH" with Charlie Sheen as a youngster. Kind of Sci-Fi car movie.
I also like 2 lane blacktop
American Graffiti is always a good one.. I have cruised many a times on that same strip..

I saw Bullitt as a kid on the big screen, and for it's time was unmatched for car chase scenes. I helped my son a few years ago put together a 1:18 scale model of that '68 Charger. Too bad they had to trash those classics back then while filming.

Ahh another wraith fan I thought I was the only one who liked that flick no one I know has ever even heard of it

I Didn't stop to count all the 69 Chargers...does that means the movie "Dukes of Hazard" isn't entertaining just because some cars get wrecked? Give me a break. And when the 1970 442 gets shot up in Demolition man, I hated to see that, but I was impressed with the car and the action. Give me a break. And in Bullit all the cars that got wrecked in the chase scenes don't count? Give me a break. Gone in 60 seconds? Nicolas Gage is a car collector and he didn't think twice about the damage that was dished out to Elainore. It was a great movie even if cars got wrecked!! Smokey and the bandit? Same old wrecking ball..give me a break
I think there are more cars (and muscle cars) wrecked by plain stupid drivers with no driving skills, or by idiots who don't know what maintenance is or lack of caring as they continue to get DUI charges than those trashed in a movie..

The cars were still in production when that movie was made. Ford and Dodge were making tens of thousands a year. Today they are making zero.

You're right, but everything moves on. That's why resto is so special to us and the screaming chickens or the mopars or fords... On the other hand, if there wasn't progress with design and tech, we'd still be sending these messages via pony express.
........That doesn't mean that I have to give my money to a movie studio that continues to trash more of them.
[Allan R]
And again, you're right. It's a choice. Cheers!

Just my two cents but..... FARGO. The main character is the sales manager for an OLDSMOBILE dealership, he also drives an OLDSMOBILE. His father in law who owns the OLDSMOBILE dealership also drives an OLDSMOBILE, and the bad guys in the movie drives an OLDSMOBILE. As an OLDSMOBILE guy it don't get any better! But thats just my two cents. I also like Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry.
